Nicki Glaser should have scored the Nederlander for a summer month or two. Then I’d be remotely interested.

Big picture, Ross' career has two key problem. One is the credible accusation that he had an underage girlfriend, which is why I won't watch him anymore.
The other issue is just for years his identity was as the Comedy Central roast guy, and Comedy Central doesn't do anything but The Daily Show and South Park anymore. He's done a couple of things on Netflix, but like the Tom Brady Roast helpedNikki Glaser more than ithelped Ross."
He is easily ten years removed from the "height" of his fame which makes the timing of this even weirder

I've actually seen him at a sold out show at the Cellar. It was the day before Trump first got elected, and he was taping a roast battle thing for Comedy Central. We nearly didn't make it because Madonna was performing unannouncedtwo blocks away inWashington Square Park, and I was for sure dropping everything to see that.

Not trying to defend or deny, but what is a "credible accusation?"

for all of previews, why they are doing 3pm matinees for this show is also very strange, if anything this should be doing the "Oh, Mary" 5pm thing

Why the bananas? Does he talk about fruit in his show?

I am guessing he is playing on the term “second banana”. I’m seeing it tomorrow night (yes, it is heavily papered). Friends have seen it and really liked it, but I am dubious. I like him, but still don’t understand how this got a Broadway house when most people don’t know who he is. Frankly, I was like “Why?” and why is this on Broadway when I found out about it a week ago. Had no idea it was a thing.
In my goal to always see every show each season, I dragged myself to the Nederlander this afternoon, thanking God it was only going to be 80 minutes. What I really didn’t expect was that 5 or so mins into the show, I was already really laughing.
I know nothing about this man outside a couple roasts I’ve seen over the years, so I really didn’t know why this show exists and was put on Broadway. And maybe I still don’t but I do know I laughed a bunch, actually cried like 3-4 times and walked out feeling really good which was the biggest surprise. There’s a lot of Jewish humor all throughout the show, some of it pretty dark and (for me) very very funny.
As for the bananas, it’s kind of a touching tribute to something in his life. We didn’t all get them today, but Ross did hand out a few to audience members while very very gently “roasting” them.
I have absolutely no idea if this thing will catch on or not but I’m not mad at spending the afternoon there today. I have to imagine something like this will be filmed for Netflix or Comedy Central or something. But yeah, for something I had no excitement about going to, it exceeded my expectations.

There look to be maybe 200 seats sold for tomorrow nights show, only 20 seats in the mezz.
yikes.
This show is severally overpriced and I think that is hurting it, most of the front mezz is $159?

I'm constantly getting ads for $59 tickets with a code, there's a $45 dollar digital lottery, and $40 rush tickets. I don't think the main reason people are avoiding seeing this show is because it's too expensive.
I went tonight fully cynical but figuring there wasn’t much to be lost on a comp.
This show was so much more wholesome than I anticipated. It’s very much a sentimental, “sad, sad tears of a clown” type of show and the roasting is mostly kept to a light sear, but I enjoyed it and 90 minutes flew by.
There a lot of his backstory (think therapy as stage memoir), as well as some hacky jokes, cringe songs, and a very funny segment about how his dogs are spiritually of the Third Reich (trying to avoid the actual word). I found myself tearing up many times and, to me, it actually humanized this sort of “frat pack” insult comic that I enjoyed mostly as a dumb teenager in Comedy Central’s glory days.
If you get a freebie or a really cheap ticket, I’d say go for it. I think he has some awareness that sales are bad just based on the way that he seemed extremely appreciative of everyone who did come out tonight.

his first week had an average ticket price of $37. I doubt there's many people paying full price for tickets.
I saw this on Tuesday night from the mezzanine, which was about 25% full. I really enjoyed the show. Didn't expect it to be a sentimental journey but still lots of laughs along the way.

Same. I saw it on Monday evening. If you don’t want to get roasted, sit in the mezz!

I caught this last night, via comps, and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I’d compare it to 700 SUNDAYS, though not nearly as compelling as Billy Crystal. But a really fun, quick escape in the theatre. I didn’t expect to get sentimental throughout the night, but I did. Definitely check it out if you can get an affordable ticket.
For anyone that has seen this, did you get a comp? Or win their lottery?

Avoiding politics onstage, meanwhile he was a drop in at Kill Tony tonight at Madison Square Garden.
For those who don't know it is the standup show hosted by HUGE MAGA Trump comic Tony Hinchcliffe (who spoke at his campaign rally in 2024 and said that racist thing about Puerto Rico being a floating island of garbage) and he has a history of anti-gay and racist comments about black people and other minorities

How could his show even go on? It’s not selling at all
This is also only 8 weeks and I can’t imagine that the investment to get it up was too expensive. The money will probably be made back in the form of a streamer picking up the show since it seems like they are filming each night,
The streamers have all the money these days - which is probably why STRANGER THINGS is staying afloat despite falling below their breakeven almost weekly. Netflix is playing a long game.
