Unless they botch it badly, this should be a terrific movie.

Will this only be Platt and Fey? What about WJP and the other leads from this? If it’s a whole new producing team, then I wonder if Danya will still direct…

I may be wrong but I think it is pretty rare that the Broadway director with no film experience gets to direct the movie. Heck, the great Peter Hall directed both Equus and Amadeus to huge hit status on Broadway, but was never offered a chance to do either film.

Honestly in terms of directors, I hope they get a female auteur to direct it. I’m hoping Sofia Coppola

I don’t know. Yes, it got great reviews and I enjoyed it overall, but it’s also predictable and unrealistic. I wish them well, and I’ll see it, but I wonder how it’ll translate to screen.

I always have a bone to pick with people who call this play unrealistc because they either mean A)
The fact that Carter is still allowed to teach and basically sees no conseuences--which is very realistic and the entire point
or B) the final scene, which is of course not realistic nor is it meant to be!
Anyway, I am inredibly excited for this. I can see it translating very well onto screen, and expanding the world withing to school/town to really emphasize the shame Shelby faces.

SPOILERS
A. If the situation wasn’t public, yes, he could probably get away with staying. It did become public, so no. That wouldn’t happen.

in a small, conservative town that's also implied to be highly religious? I could easily see it being swept under the rug or "just not talked about".

Well it's a movie about high school school kids produced by Marc Platt, so I definitely know what the joke answer is.
Actual answer - why not just Sadie Sink?

You might be closer with your joke than you think - Sadie Sink would probably be 24 or 25 by the time the movie starts filming, and she might not want to be playing a 16-17 year old on screen anymore.
Then again, it could also be that she's a very in-demand actress and doesn't know if she'd be able to fit it into their schedule. Or maybe she's still in negotiations.

saw the play tonight, and while i enjoyed the writing, i'm hoping another stab will allow them to workshop some of the more amateurish, awkward moments/transitions. i actually do NOT see how much of the humor/performances translate to film but i look forward to seeing them pull it off.
Fina Strazza is by far the best thing about the play, and she really does read young, so it would be great if she made her way to the film. Chiara Aurelia did not impress, but everyone else was pretty fantastic, and kudos to Fiona Robberson on a fine debut as Raelynn.

Honestly, I forgot how much real world time passes between Stranger Things seasons and thought Sink was a lot younger than she actually is. I'm willing to bet if Sink is attached as a producer she's planning on being on screen in some capacity, if not the same role.

I think it’s very possible this film has been in development longer than we might think. In interviews, Belflower has said Sadie had the script as far back as 2022. It entirely possible that turning it into a film after the Broadway run way always part of the plan (unless the play never caught on). I don’t know how timelines usually play out but I wonder if this is something that could be under way as soon as Sadie is done with Spider Man.
I can’t imagine why Sadie would attach herself to the role of Executive Producer unless she’s in the film, tbh, and who would she play other than Shelby?
I imagine that perhaps they’re not announcing her as cast yet because they’re trying to let Chiara have her moment & allow the show to catch on with her in it.
If Sadie isn’t Shelby in the film, I’m betting it’s on her terms. She’s 23 but reads & looks incredibly young & people in their mid twenties playing high school kids happens all the time. It didn’t work in DEH because Platt just looked older AND he was surrounded by people who looked like actual high school kids, so it was weird.
I think the question will be if Sadie, who is sort of known to the public as a kid, still wants to be seen as one when she’s in her mid 20s.
