...so, the next lyric in the song is “Broadway, here I come!”
So what is he coming back in?

I have no idea but I have been wanting him to come back for years now. Like Norm Lewis, Audra McDonald, Norbert Leo Butz, and Aaron Tveit, they are all best live. Their talents are wasted on dumb television shows. He left Supergirl full time so I think he is coming back!!! ![]()

I've never seen it, so I have no idea if this casting would make any sense, but how about coming in as Charlie Price to close Kinky Boots?

I'm not completely convinced this means he's coming back to Broadway, but I certainly doesn't NOT mean that.
He'd actually be quite good as both Billy and Charlie, as mentioned above, but would he want to come back in those roles? Maybe something new?

Continuing the random thought train: maybe Bobby opposite Laura Osnes as Polly in Crazy for You?

If we are talking already running, I can seen him jumping into Waitress with McPhee when she returns.

You would be surprised; what with his Newsies, Smash, Supergirl, etc. fame PLUS a voice-role on the Tangled series. Jeremy Jordan might not be the most bankable name, but there are definitely people who know who he is!

Him being in Waitress with McPhee makes perfect and wonderful sense. He is wonderful for that role and it would a little Smash reunion. I hope that's it!

I could see him jumping into Beautiful with Melissa Bennoist. That way they could really promote Supergirl

I can't imagine him leaving his high paying tv job to be a replacement. (at least I hope he isn't that dumb!)

I don't think he's leaving his job for a Broadway show, I think the show demoted him to a recurring role (not because of him personally, probably for creative reasons) and he saw it as an opportunity to go back to musical theatre.

He’s already stepped down from series regular to someone who will appear in a few episodes in the new season so that ship has already sailed. I’ve watched every episode so obviously I’m a fan of the show, but it’s not stupid if he wants to use his considerable talents elsewhere while keeping his toe in the door of the superhero universe. I also imagine that the show (which had to jump networks after it was cancelled) only has a few seasons left. Better he start exploring his options now. I’m also guessing he is grateful for the regular paycheck, but misses live theater.
Update: I just re-read your post. I agree it would be smarter if he goes into a new show or revival rather than as a replacement. Although if he does, I’m pulling for him in Waitress. I enjoyed Waitress immensely, but kinda considered it a one-and-done, but I’d be tempted to see it again with him in it.

Forget McPhee. He should be the next Jenna.

I thought his statement was pretty clear that it was his choice to leave the show (although maybe he was demoted and it's just PR spin).

I agree. My perception is it was his choice.

Bill Calhoun in Kiss Me Kate? That's a big dancing part.

I'd like to see him in a revival of Shenandoah in at least 15 years as Charlie. He'd be brilliant.

This was actually the first thing I thought of, but I don’t know how well he really dances. Jack Kelly wasn’t in King of New York, and actually didn’t do that much of the difficult dancing in Seize the Day. The other shows he’s done weren’t really dance heavy.
