Honestly, this could be absolutely fantastic. Seeing as music was used in the first film to represent Arthur Fleck’s delusions of grandeur, this choice makes sense to heighten that aspect. The first movie already had a lot of more musical elements such as how they used Sinatra and “Send In The Clowns”. If anything, I trust Phoenix’s taste in projects to know that he would not sign on if it wasn’t 100% great.
"Insiders privy to filming and early versions of Todd Phillips’ eagerly awaited sequel to “Joker” tell Variety the movie leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical,” as it integrates at last 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs. One is said to be “That’s Entertainment” from the 1953 musical “The Band Wagon,” famously associated with Judy Garland. However, there is a door open for an original song (or two) to be added to the final version."

Even factoring in delays due to the strike, the idea that they still haven't finalized which songs are going to be used, or if any original songs will be featured at all this far into production is... not great.

Agree 100 per cent , the first movie was to me an unwatchable mess with a leading performance that was awful. But this intrigues me enough that I’m willing to see it
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.
