what about joey fatone? he fits the boy band pop star description and he’s on broadway quite frequently. only problem I see is his age…
My money would be on Michael Buble if they reduced the dance load. Yes he's 50 but he's the only pop star in that generation who's close to "right" for it, aside from Timberlake.

I agree, and he’s well tickets. Joey Fantone has fans, but I don’t think he’d sell well enough.

Plus the fact that no one wants to see him in a Speedo.

I assume this shutters the moment Groff decides to leave.Maybe Groff chooses to do a limited run in London after taking a break.
Where the Darin name might still hold some weight is in the regions. I’d be surprised if they don't launch a non-Eq tour, and it should do decently well in licensing."
I completely agree that Darin’s name isn’t the one selling tickets to the Bobby Darin musical. Also, someone like Harry Connick Jr. is 100% wrong for this. Bobby Darin died at 37. HCJ is way too old, and I don’t think Bublé dances. There really is nobody who can do it like Groff and also sell tickets. It will close with him."
I agree there's nobody like Groff. I adore him. I think Buble has other irons in the fire, plus a family. As far as dancing, he does limited dancing on his tours. But if the offer intrigued him, he could learn to dance.

🤣 Honey, no one wants to see those of us of a certain age in a speedo. But, I agree with you on that point.
I mean, Joey Fatone will be the first to crack the self-deprecating joke that he’s Joey the Fat One; he’s been playing bumbling character roles in musical theatre for almost twenty years now. I love the guy (he’s a Pittsburgh icon), but I don’t see him stepping into Broadway marquee leading man roles. It’s not his vibe.
We haven’t had a Jonathan Groff type in ages: a mainstream Hollywood superstar who is also a singing, dancing sex symbol AND a Broadway star. I don’t think anyone’s pulled that off since Hugh Jackman twenty years ago, and it’s hard to think if it happened before him.

I have been a big fan since I saw him in Spring Awakening a thousand years ago. That said, by no stretch of the imagination is Jonathan Groff a mainstream Hollywood superstar. He has never been the lead in a non-indie movie and was in a few very good Netflix shows. Probably his biggest hits have been Kristoff in the incredibly popular Frozen movies, in which we was neither the lead.or seen.

It's a shame Netflix has so bungled Mind Hunter, Groff's biggest mainstream hit to date. He'd be an even bigger name if it had continued.

Sex symbol?
Netflix has benefited a few actors from their biggest shows, but generally there is so much stuff sitting there unwatched. There's no residuals from doing a Netflix series. I don't see the benefit for a mid-career performer to do a Netflix series - unless they have no other options. People like Adam Sandler or Nicole Kidman get paid well upfront, but fir a mud-career actor they orobably could do better elsewhere. I'd go over to the UK & try to book a "cosy mystery" series. Those play forever in reruns on PBS & the like. Look at how well everyone on Durrels has done for themselves - though not a mystery series.
