Jarrod Spector Calls Out Kanye West
This got buried in the reviews thread, so thought I’d start a post on it.
Kudos to Jarrod Spector for calling him out on this. Why even attend the show if you’re going to be on your phone the entire time? This guy is just unbelievable.

Kanye apologized, sort of: https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/1069792161850384384
"the dynamics of Cher and Sonny’s relationship made Kim and I grab each other’s hand and sing “I got you babe” please pardon my lack of etiquette. We have so much appreciation for the energy you guys put into making this master piece."

Posted: 12/4/18 at 4:59amSee the thing that bugged me the most about all this. I was at the opening. And these two got more papa and press when they arrived than Cher. It is the f INg Cher Show opening. She is a living legend. And the whole thing becomes over overshadowed by this publicity stunt. It was soooo clear that these paps were tipped off and set up. It drove me crazy

I'm surprised that they had the time between their visits to 2-bit dictators and anti-gay crusaders.

I guess they were invited (or invited themselves?), because Kim is a longtime Cher fan. They are both Armenian, so she's always been an idol to Kim. She should've left Kanye at home, though. Still, the publicity can't hurt, right?

Omg is anyone else really annoyed that his apology is a non sequitur and no one seems to be questioning it?? "Turn off your phone" - "I'm sorry, my wife and I were singing" -- THAT DOESN'T MENTION BEING ON THE PHONE smdh.

This is utterly ridiculous. Don't care who you are. DO NOT attend a Broadway show if you plan on being on your phone the entire time. It is disruptive to everyone. Actors and patrons included. Glad he has been called out, and more actors should do the same. Maybe Patti LuPone them and snatch the phone!!! Last weekend I was in Apologia and in the final scene which is emotional, a cell phone went off and the older lady couldn't turn it off. The actors commented when the show was over. Broadway needs to continue to take a stand on this issue!!

Not to mention the TMZ piece "He thought the show was so beautiful that, even though he and Kim were scheduled to leave during intermission, they pushed their flight back so they could catch the end of the show."
Who announces that they're just showing up for press/for the step and repeat, and then bouncing during intermission! At least pretend you're there for the show.

They didn't just quantum leap into their seats...
They were invited to drum up publicity for an event and here it is...

Man, do I wish Patti LuPone had been performing when this occurred.

We don't know the nature of that phone call/text whatever but if it was super important and he had to be on it for several minutes.... then he should have left his seat and go to the lobby and take care of the business there; not in his premium seat disturbing other audience members and distracting the actors.

If he was waiting on a super important call he should've stayed home to receive it.
At the theatre there is only one thing that is important, whats going on on the stage.
If you can't show it the respect it and the performers deserve, don't go.
Phones should be banned from the theatre full stop.

What's shocking to me is the responses on social media. Lots of people saying everyone is on their phones these days who cares, there was probably lots of people on their phone who cares, his wife dragged him and he was bored who cares and people with children need to have their phones on at all times. Sigh. Granted, it is clear none of these people have ever been inside a theatre but the attitude that it's completely fine to distract others because you paid for your ticket/you're bored/you have CHILDREN g'dam it! etc etc depresses me. Concerts have largely been ruined by people holding up their screens during the entire performance. It will be a sad, sad day if live theatre ever goes the same way.

SamG88, you are so right. You said it perfectly. It's amazing how many people on that Twitter post don't think Kanye did anything wrong, and make it Jarrod's fault. Huh? The entitlement just gets worse.
Nothing is that important that you can't turn your phone OFF to see a show.

Exactly.
If it was something THAT important he was aware of it before he sat down and should have just stayed home or stayed in the outside lobby until it was taken care of.
In Denver they had, and may still have, a number that could be called at the theater for emergencies. The patron have the number to whomever may call. They have the info and seat number to staff and if a call came in, a staff member would go to the patrons seat to retrieve them or wait until intermission if possible.

He was only there for the publicity. Using his phone during the show was probably a planned stunt too and it worked.

So it was planned for Kayne to have his phone on, and planned for Jarrod to reply via Twitter?

Why does everyone think every moronic thing he does some calculated brilliance?
