Speedy recovery Miss Karen! :)
For the person that asked how it happened...
My friend was at the show and said that it happened during the *POSSIBLE SPOILER* attempted rape scene at the end. She fell weird, then finished the scene and everything, but apparently was limping and may or may not have needed help offstage. And then she didn't come out for the curtain call.
I wish her the best and hope she heals quickly.
Oof, that sounds terrible. I know I'm not the hugest fan of Karen in the role, but I hope she recovers very quickly!

If she broke her foot like her Facebook post says, she will most likely be out for at least a month or more. I am still recovering from a break to my ankle from Feb. I guess it depends on the break.
Yeah. I broke my ankle on Valentine's day and I'm still having trouble with it. Since it's her foot, IDK how long she'll be out but it'll definitely be longer than a month. I hope she's alright.
I am still on crutches. I would assume that if she gets a cast, that will be for at least 30 days. I had surgery so I had 4 casts in 60 days. With no surgery, I am sure she probably won't be able to hop back onstage in 30 days. I would bet at least 2 months.
Ah, man! This sucks. I hope she'll have a safe recovery.
(For the record, I've done WSS twice and the rape scene was always the scene I was most worried about...one false move and someone can get hurt very easily).

So you're saying that because we aren't professional performers we can't empathize with what Karen is feeling and going through? Furthermore, what does the invisible man in the sky have to do with someone who is injured getting better?
Yeah, live my life for the past 3 months! 4 casts, surgery, titanium in my foot and still on crutches for 3 more weeks, and then possibly a cane for a while. I have to be driven everywhere or take a cab. All this from just walking down the street and slipping on black ice. My spirit wants to continue...walking! But it could be worse.
EVERY single person in this thread has offered their sympathies to Karen and wished for a speedy recovery. I have no idea why you felt the need to post that rant, starlight2.
As for how long she'll be out, given that she was supposed to leave the show sometime in the "summer 2010" (per an old Playbill article), I wonder if she just might not return to the show. I wouldn't be shocked if Saturday's abbreviated performance was her final one.

uncageg, you've been through so much these past months. It can happen to anyone at any time. Word to the wise.
I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. Christina Applegate was performing fairly quickly after breaking her foot, and that was a much larger role with more dancing. I would imagine Karen was contracted through the end of Summer.
And besty, you have seen the damage!
I totally forgot about Christina. I think I saw her early in the B'way run and she was fine. I forget the whole timeline with that. But here's hoping Karen heals well.
An injury to a dancer hurts more than an injury to the average person? Pshaw. If anything, they are more fit, therefore the body is in better shape to heal. (I'm not saying they should return to dancing before medically healed, mind you.)
Your rant, Starlight, is ridiculous and uncalled for.
Unless you have been there, you can't comprehend the pain! the agony, depression, and only with God's help and the REAL friends, can you get thru it!

"OH, THE PAIN! THE PAIN! YOU CAN'T COMPREHEND THE PAIN!!!! YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND--EVEN IF YOU WERE TO BREAK EVERY LIMB AND EVERY BONE, TEAR EVERY LIGAMENT AND RIP APART EVERY SINEW, YOU WOULD NEVER UNDERSTAND THE PAIN, THE AGONY, THE PAIN, THE AGONY, AND THE PAIN. YOU WOULD NEVER UNDERSTAND, YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE.... NO. RIGHT. TO. JUDGE! OH--AND THE PAIN...DID I MENTION THE PAIN?"
I'm barely embellishing at all, really...
"...ONLY WITH GOD'S HELP...AND THE HELP OF REAL FRIENDS...NOT THE PATHETIC BLEATINGS OF YOU MESSAGE-BOARD WORMS..."
I don't even have to touch this phrase:
"...at some point, their body gives out, even though their spirit wants to continue! and their beautiful voices, lose their angelic and moving vocal,or belt, that person is devastated!..."
I wish Karen a speedy recovery. As several posters in this thread might remember, I was not a fan of this particular performance of hers, but I have always agreed that she is an extremely talented performer. NO ONE here wishes Karen ill.
So take your high dudgeon and air of superiority elsewhere. (But keep coming back with that melodrama! It's HYSTERICAL!

Get well soon, Karen.
anyone know if Natalie Cortez will now perform the role full-time?? or will they alternate it between Cortez & someone else until Olivo gets back??
^ Hopefully we will get a press release tomorrow with all of the information.
I feel awful. An injury is a very sad way to bow out of a show. I'm no huge Idina fan, but the way she exited Wicked... your heart just has to go out to them.

Well said. I broke my ankle during a show RIGHT before intermission during our last show because I did a jump that I did every show and just so happened to land on my ankle. I did what you probably shouldn't do and finished the show anyway. I used a chair as a make-shift walker. Hopefully Karen had help, lol!

I'm not following her what did she say?
^^I don't tweet, so is she returning soon??
It just says "My foot is broken, but my spirit is thriving..."
