I'm not super familiar with Clarkson's work, but this is gorgeous. Based on what's been said in this thread, I understand that she's not much of an actor, which is a shame.
I've been thinking recently that, while Broadway plays don't have TOO much trouble tapping film/tv stars, it's much tougher for musicals to score bankable box office names. With Sara Bareilles revealing herself to be an excellent actor, I have to wonder what other untapped acting talent exists in the popular music world.
It would be great if we could get bankable names like Clarkson to champion a new musical, since it's so incredible difficult to get a new musical a massively popular IP, or with a Best Musical win (or even WITH one...)
It's not ideal, because then you face the flip-side problem, where the show is so dependent on the star that it can't keep running after they leave. But it might still be worth it if it means getting more risky musicals to sell on Broadway.
