I can't say how the mezz and the balcony were, but Saturday night the orchestra was about 90-95% filled, and didn't dip very much between the first and second acts. Again, I can't judge for the mezz or balcony, though, as my friend and I were sitting in the 10th row, along the left side of the orchestra.
Calling Lestat the new "Carrie" is a major insult to Carrie. Carrie has some great songs whereas Lestat does not have any!
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
I really hope the show stays at least through the summer until I can see it.
And out of curiousity, how many of you posting here liked Aida? Or like Elton's music in general? I love his work, so maybe that's why I liked this score so much.
I liked Aida. I own several Elton John albums. In fact I was lucky enough to see him live in studio in early October '04 when he was on Ellen. Lestat's music did absolutely nothing for me.
Some people come into our lives and quietly go, others stay a while, and leave footprints on our heart, and we are never the same.
"One of these days, long after this closes, people will take the risk once again to try once more to make a great musical about vampires. They will get all the best talent around and they will put their heart and soul into it...
...And they will fail like all the rest."
You must have superhuman powers and be able to see way into the future, predicting what critics will say and how the mind of every audience member will work, or you're just a negative person who doesn't care for vampires in a musical. Someone will get it right eventually, and looking at the culprits of these three shows, I would've never pegged ANY of them to create a musical with a story of vampires...AND THERE IS A REASON, THEY DIDN'T DO A GOOD JOB, lol....But, someone will!
Later!

I never saw Aida, but I had the cast recording for a year, realized I'd listened to it twice, and then sold it. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't a keeper.
I'm indifferent when it comes to Elton John's non-musical work. If he's on the radio, I'll listen, but I have never really cared one way or the other.
Still, when I saw Lestat, the only song that to my ears sounded REMOTELY like an Elton John song at all was Welcome to the New World.

From what I could gather, you filled out a little form, gave them your 20 bucks, and then they promise to mail you the cast recording as soon as it's released (as long as you're in the continental US, of course).
Sadly, this wasn't the most ridiculous thing in the theater...
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around...
I'm "Sunday" on the Lestat Boards. Yes, I agreed with Kat that Drew can get nasally sometimes. For the most part, its only noticeable when he's going back and forth between falsetto and (a perfect, clear, amazing) tenor. I haven't caught it in Lestat (yet), but you can hear it quite a bit on Say It.
He's not a "god", haha. Imperfection is a given.

For the record, I absolutely love Aida. Not crazy about The Lion King (musical...the movie's just fine). I haven't heard Billy Elliot yet, but I'm seeing it in May.
You had "From the Dead" in the NY listing as the intro...I thought they changed that? I thought that was a good intro song ( Or at least better than nothing ) I hope they keep it. And how is "Morality Play?" From what I've read, they changed Marius' backstory to "His blood saved the world" or something lame like that. *Sigh* Not sure what was so hard to understand about that portion of his backstory..even without the Akasha/Enkil aspect, Lestat should merely be looking to him for answers cuz he is the oldest and wisest. There. Easy. Oh well.
Although it apparently has taken them a long time for it to become easy -- or at least easier than it was in SF!
Which was like: Armand: *mumbles something about his Maker* Lestat: He musta lived among mortals! He's really frickin' old. Come on, Mom, let's find him! Armand: I wanna come. Gabrielle: No, you become Mr. Producer. Armand: Grrr! *twirls mustache*
*10 years later*
Gabrielle: I'm tired of this, bye. Lestat: But MOM! ... I'm going to go bury myself now. In the red dirt of sadness.
Marius: SO IF YOU CARE TO FIND MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

LOL! He had such a grandiose, over-blown entrance at the end of Act 1 that I turned to my friends at intermission and said, "Is THAT what this show is supposed to be about...Lestat's search for Marius??"
Turns out, none of them knew. And Act 2 certainly didn't answer the question either.
I really didn't like Marius in the SF production, I was really hoping they would replace him. He was very King & I. Considering Lestat's quest for Marius IS the central plot, he really should have been in it more, but when I saw his portrayal I was glad they kept it a glorified cameo.
I didn't really understand that Lestat was supposed to be underground until the second time I saw the show. Apparently he was so sad that he just sank, and Marius bursts through the, er, earth, complete with dry ice?
At least they did away with Marius' orgasmic "OOOOOOH YEEEESSSSS!" near the end. Although I assume that Lestat writing to Marius on ALL THE WALLS of EUROPE is still there. ::PowerPoint presentation::

i hate reading comments like "sounds nasally". Tell those kids on the lestat forum to study a little vocal physiology and listen to something other than Norbert/Idina and then develop a fuller understanding of the singing voice.
Some of those kids are musical theatre majors who saw Wicked once and never went back. :) I can't stand Idina Menzel's voice and happen to think Drew Sarich has a gorgeous voice.
The girl that made the initial comment used the word she thought was appropriate to describe what she was hearing, and I ("Sunday" on there) said that I understood what she was talking about.
I hate reading comments like "Tell those kids..."
Everyone has cranky moments. :)
"Water never looked so good til you're down on the desert floor, scrapin' around for a taste of what you always took for granted."
the whole "Lestat goes underground" thing was really poorly handled in the show...I don't think once prior to that they ever explain that Vampires can go beneath the Earth and rest for decades and re-awaken in a whole new world; and then for Lestat to suddenly do that must have made Zero sense to any casual theater goer. Glad they dropped it.
