I seem to recall Madonna complaining about a whole bunch of industry people sitting at the front of one of her concerts with arms folded looking hostile. I wonder if Laura had a specific person in mind- maybe an industry figure who didn't feel it necessary to applaud. Could this "general" comment have a more specific target with a "you know who you are" subtext?
Someone politely disagreed with her and told her that she'd be happier if she didn't expect applause.
She called him "the worst" and proceeded to chide him until she deleted the conversation.
The perfect solution is whenever she is either talking or singing applaud wildly and stop when she is not acting or singing.

Haha! Good one Roxy
I doubt Benanti intended this to be taken anywhere nearly as seriously. It strikes me as her usual brio and trademark droll humor reflecting on what most actors truly feel (and who can blame them?). But that's quite different than a dead-earnest claim that actors are entitled to applause.
I think she may have a problem hanging out with Jack Daniels if you get my drift
Awhile back at a Cheyenne Jackson concert in Town Hall, she was a featured guest. What she did was come out on stage sang a song or two and than proceeded to sit down on the lip of the stage. She than opened up her dress to reveal her inner Sharon Stone. She was wearing nothing underneath and made sure those in the front row and the whole place for that matter knew it. She than walked off. People who came to hear her sing were disappointed and the rest of the crowd sat there a bit on the surprised side.
I have never not clapped but then again I don't feel I am obligated to clap if I don't think the performance is worth me showing appreciation. My goodness, professional athletes get booed if the crowd is not happy with their performance.
I saw this video last night and laughed really hard. Then I showed it to someone who had the reaction a lot of other people here have and I thought "Well, sh*t. This joke, this funny little thing she's kidding about it going to make people online furious and they're just going to jump all over her".
People, this is Laura Benanti we're talking about. One of the sweetest, funniest, kindest and most talented people on this planet we live on. I'M BEGGING YOU, give her a pass on this and just move on.
I don't mind Benanti making a joke, but this doesn't come off that way. She's being gross and angry here. "If you're not gonna clap for ME stay home and play with yourself." Who SAYS that? I hope the producers make her take that ugly little video down.
Again, I like her, but this video is way uncool with me.
Only Broadway World members could turn this in to something it's not, it's a joke kids, calm down.

IMO, I get the video was lighthearted fun but it was a little off-putting. However, I think her brand of humor tends to highlight her insecurities sometimes. I don't mean that in a bad way either. Audra McDonald once said, "performers are insecure. That's why we get on stage". So, by telling people to clap, I don't think she's being narcissistic (even if it comes off that way). I think she's looking for validation from the audience that she is good at her job, that her hard work is appreciated. She's one of the funniest actresses on the planet but I think she kind of missed the mark with this one.

THANK YOU! Yes. Is the the worst thing anyone ever said? No. But she misses the mark here and comes off badly, methinks.

I hope the glass house you're living in is made with that glass they use on police car windows so it doesn't immediately shatter.
Sometimes funny people make a not-funny joke.
The end.

Please stop cyber stalking me. Thank you.
Replying to a post in a thread is not cyber-stalking.
Neither is referencing someone's posting history on a message board.
That's always been what he does. You call him out for his crap and he says "STOP STALKING ME!"

No. You can argue againt the point I'm making all day long. But every time I post something, you call me a racist. That is cyber stalking and it needs to stop NOW.

Curious if Laura Benanti would be ok if people boo'ed instead of not clapping. People boo at the opera...
Yep. You got it. I think that's exactly what she was going for with that video. Bingo.
These threads are public conversations. If you don't want Jordan to reply to you, don't post.
It's not in any stretch of the imagination stalking.
By that logic, you are stalking Jordan by replying to his reply.

She didn't seem to care about being rude as she texted throughout HAMILTON.
