I think we're watching Patti Lupone's cognitive decline in real time.
I’m not sure we are. It does feel kind of true that the person who made the claims about her in Patti’s words didn’t know what the f*** they were talking about or they wouldn’t have made such a ridiculous claim about her. And Audra was indeed no friend liking the post and as Patti said she should have known better. I’m sure Patti is eagerly waiting to watch Audra lose her Tony now. I hope Patti’s therapist is on standby should Audra win.
Patti and Audra fell out a while ago, and it wasn’t professional, it was personal.

Was it before the virtual Sondheim concert in 2020?
It’s pretty sad given their past and the breadth of work they did together.
An interesting comment from Rick Miramontez’s husband on X:

You don't get to applaud her and scream "Go, diva" when she snatches a cell phone or screams at an old man who can't wear a mask properly, and then vilify her when she shades divas you love.
You just gotta take her for who she is, or ignore her.
I have historically been a fan of Patti's candor, but to me this crosses a line into mean-spiritedness. This OnStage Blog article pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about her comments:

Just out of curiosity, for those more knowledgeable than I am, did Patti LuPone ever trash Hal Prince like this when he was alive?

Calling someone with 40 years of Broadway experience not a vet and a “bitch” isn’t fun shade. It’s nasty. There is a difference.

The OP said that her “bitch” comment didn’t “help dodge the racist claims,” indicatingthere were multiple claims of racism against LuPone prior to this profile being published.
I asked what they were. (And stilldidn’t get much more clarity there.)
So, what are you even saying?
And FWIW, I’m a POC. Not a “white loser.”
Take it down a few notches."
My comment was not only directed at you but everyone on this thread trying to make their eyes touch their assholes in defense of a woman who's never done a damn thing worth defending. If Audra or Kecia had called Patti a bitch would you all be rushing to find reasons they might be justified in doing so? Don't answer, I've seen how you act when Black performers say or do things you don't like. None of the grace you all seem to have for Dear Old Patti is ever extended to them.
As for you being a "person of color" I can't begin to tell you how much I don't care. Person of color is a meaningless term meant to muddy the waters of specific conversations. If you are Black I will gladly discuss with you why I find Patti's comments racist. Any other identity or background or passport color? I don't care.
As for SallyDurantDumber's assertion that I'm "reducing" Patti's statement, Patti is an AARP member who's been stringing sentences together for a long time. She chose to use the word bitch because she meant it and while I'm sure it's lovely for all of you to pretend you don't know why she used it I won't sit around and play braindead with you.

In a bygone era of no social media, I’d agree wholeheartedly with this article. I still do agree with most of it. But this point is the one thing I can’t get on board with:
Right now, the theater world is trying to be more inclusive, more compassionate, more human.
Who exactly is “trying”…? The theatre world is still full of rampant abuse. It’s just hidden now, under a thin veil of inclusion and compassion. That bubble has been threatening to burst since before Covid.
Hence why my take on this whole thing is a big fat “so what?”
The theatre industry has MUCH bigger fish to fry than crucifying Patti LuPone for complaining a show is too loud and flippantly calling the person who accused her of racism a “bitch.”

I am Black and frankly, based on the assumptions you’ve jumped to regarding this situation (as well as your comments about other people of color?), I’m good. No need to DM me for that conversation. Have a lovely evening.
I think the way in which some people act like being b*tchy to a black woman in 2025 is equal to punching a baby in the face is really pretty patronizing if I'm being honest. Patti is a total Cee U Next Tuesday, everyone knows this. She probably would punch a baby in the face under the right circumstances. I don't think she's racist, she's just INSANE. People of all races catch strays from her on the daily!

It also kills me when you guys come in here loudly pronouncing that you don't find certain things racist and it's like...Massa doesn't think it's racist? Oh in that case we'll all just shut up then! Who do you people think you are? Why would your opinion on racism stop us from speaking about it? I mean really. What makes you think you matter?

Kecia is that you? You and Patti should fist fight in the middle of Shubert Alley.

Unsurprisingly, a condescending hot take. I mean…this is a theater message board.
We’re meant to share our POVs and opinions.
What makes YOU think YOUR opinions matter…?
One of the best things about a message board, from my POV, is to have a productive discourse about things we might not see eye to eye on.
But clearly this isn’t going anywhere productive.
You feel the way you feel and that’s not changing - clearly.

Oh how cute. How interesting that once you accuse me of being Kecia Lewis your mind jumps straight to physical violence. I wonder why!
If I'm being honest Patti's comments in that article might be the kindest thing I've ever heard an Italian person say about black people

LMAOOOOO
Lewis isn’t the only one Patti uses that word about in the article. Here’s a quote from the “Sunset” segment -
“Years later, at a Kennedy Center tribute to Barbara Cook, (Glenn) Close took a seat next to LuPone. "She said, 'I had nothing to do with it,' " LuPone recalled. "I wanted to go, ‘Bull****, bitch!'"
I don’t think I’ve ever heard her talk that way about Close.

The fact that you think this makes it better. God you forget that theatre is full of losers from Omaha until the topic is something that requires actually thought or consideration for another human being and then you're quickly reminded.
