Sounds about white to me. Let's end there."
They keep focusing on that one word. They don’t focus on the fact that it’s part of a phrase. A phrase where she completely undermined and diminishes a 40 year career on Broadway and suggests that somehow this woman has not earned the status “veteran“. Once again, a white woman has claimed superiority to a black woman who has worked just as hard in the same industry. And to double down, she adds that word.
It’s really not that hard for my fellow white people to acknowledge this. They actively make the choice not to. And gosh, it is maddening
This thread is now just going in circles. It will not ever have an outcome someone isn’t offended by.
Can we just go back to Audra vs Nicole? At least that shelf life is coming to a conclusion.
Are we claiming that Kecia Lewis (or whatever her name is?) is anywhere near the level of stardom or divadom as Patti Lupone?

Darling, you wanna debate about trophies start another thread. Some people actually enjoy human decency and respect. Who cares who wins the Tony this year if white women like Patti continue to devalue and undercut them to uphold her pedestal. Check her and maybe we can move on.

I've (unfortunately?) read this entire thread and I don't know that anyone has claimed that. Who is this "we" in your question? Can you name names?

So, regarding this Times cover... it seems they are absolutely sure Audra is winning Tony this year 🤔 I hope it's not "Dewey defeats Truman" situation comes June 9. Such blatant bias makes me want Nicole to win even more. Anyway, it's not over till it's over.

I think Patti should pull a Joan Crawford and get Nicole's permission to accept the Tony for her

Patti is Italian.

No, we’re claiming Patti has two Tonys with 28 Bway credits and Audra has 6 with far less. So, Patti should shut up and mind the bag that pays her. It’s giving white jealously due to lack of excellence. She was on Bway this season, but I guess her performance didn’t garner another Tony nom like some VETERANS did.
This might be a bit off-topic, but as an actual Italian, I always find it amusing how some Americans have this bizarre idea that being Italian somehow makes you a person of color. Italians can be of any skin color — including white, like Patti LuPone, lol

Kecia would be NOTHING without all this drama. She got the attention she craved.

Italians are PoC like the Irish. Jews are white.

I keep forgetting the different accounts you have on here.
You say you enjoy human respect and decency how about starting at home by not calling someone “Darling”. Or do you not practice what you seem to preach so freely?

I do find this hilarious - all this hoopla, the time magazine cover, all the hype behind the Direction, now the Patti controversy etc. it feels like a big distraction and deception PR technique into making the production seem like it is more interesting than it actually is. This thread is 10x more interesting than the show.
Call me bitter, but George C Wolfe you broke my heart when I had to sit through not one but two performances of Gypsy in New York City when the light was on in the Overture and people talking over it! That is one of the biggest theatre disappointments I've ever had.
The other thing is RE: Patti's response to Kecia Lewis, if I recall Kecia Lewis put herself on the same level as Patti ("from one vet to another" or something. And all Patti is doing is trying to highlight that in comparison to her, Kecia is a nobody. It's not a classy thing to say but it is is true and I think there is an implication that if Kecia were truly a Broadway veteran she would understand the sound issue a bit more - "it happens all the time" - (hence Audra "should have known better"
. I think it's important that these unfair and toxic comments are called out, even though ironically Patti probably looked better in the situation before she decided to comment. I hope someone will similarly call out Cynthia Erivo in future for all the POC she managed to make unemployed through her also misguided comments and accusations.
I’m glad I had an early flight today so I’m awake to read this before it’s all deleted soon.

I don't care how talented she is. This isn't needed or warranted, and she owes both women an apology. "
100%. The occasional messy and/or blunt comment by Patti is fine, we all love the tea. But this latest batch of bs is vile. She sounds legitimately crazy.
That was insane even for BWW. I wish they wouldn’t have deleted it all.

Truly vile. I think it should be left for display.

Agree. Patti should have left well enough alone. Kecia was in the wrong for making that video when all The Roommate wanted was for them to turn the noise down. But her comments about Kecia were tactless, and Patti has no longer has the moral high ground in this situation.
Gosh, am I sorry I missed whatever was deleted.
It’s really weird and, frankly, embarrassing the way some of y’all are twisting yourselves in knots to defend Patti’s nonsense. Thank god you’re able to hide behind an anonymous message board. Something tells me you wouldn’t be this loud and wrong in real life.

"Graceless and vulgar, uninspired".
It was a line from a show you were in Patti. Not a training manual to live by.

That's why I subscibe to threads. For all those gems, before they're filtered out.
