MJ: THE MUSICAL Original Broadway Cast Recording Thread

Sony Music announced today that they will release MJ the Musical - Original Broadway Cast Recording on Friday, July 15.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of MJ will be available in digital album and single CD formats with pre-orders beginning today. To preorder, click HERE.

I'm definitely interested in hearing the performances, but I don't want to give any money to the Jackson estate. I'll probably listen some of the tracks when it's uploaded on YouTube.

Not a recording I would buy (And it has nothing to do with the Jackson Estate). I already own all of the originals. Will probably just listen to it once.

What I do own is the "Immortal" album. Love it.

I believe Sony owns Jackson’s music now. I don’t know if the estate would see any money from album sales of this cast recording. If they do it wouldn’t be from licensing the music. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

They didn’t record a word of dialogue. It’s just the songs. I’m sure they just wanted to record a pop album and that’s exactly what they did so it’s a success in that sense, but I personally would have liked some dialogue to better understand the story they’re telling since I’ll likely never see the show. It’s just a cover album of his music. It doesn’t really sound like a cast album the way the Ain’t Too Proud cast album sounds like a radio play which I very much enjoyed.

It's finally out! Thoughts below, everybody.

I spent some time giving this a first listen today, and it sounds good for the most part. Jason Michael Webb and David Holcenberg have done an impeccable job bringing Jackson’s music to a new generation - and theatre audiences. Frost sounds fantastic, and I’ve heard his covers also give spectacular live performances when they get to go on.

This show is a hard-working crowd pleaser, and I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be around for a while.

Why record dialogue? It's essentially a revue. What, gotta get that pesky reporter asking pesky questions of rumors that need to be shot down?
