What has been people's experience with Mary Poppins? I'm thinking about seeing it but was wondering if it's tailored for mostly kids?
i think it is a fairly good show. nothing incredibly special but i would recommend seeing it :)
I saw the tour in Cincy and totally loved it. I can only imagine that the Broadway version is better.

It's BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING. So So So Boring. I don't know how they did it, but they managed to suck every bit of joy from the film out of the stage version. Now picture sitting in a theater full of bored children for three hours - It ain't pretty.
Though I am an ardent fan of the original 1964 Walt Disney film, I really didn't feel any urge to see the Broadway adaptation, especially after all the back-and-forth comments coming over from England when the show made its debut over there.
Well... I was dragged to see the show when it first opened on Broadway and much to my surprise -- I LOVED IT! The tone and interpretation is completely different from the Walt Disney film AND it works. Its darker in tone which works for the adults. I really wouldn't consider it as geared for small kids in any way. More for the sassier kids to adults, really.

I really love the show. I've seen it twice.
I also highly recommend it if you're a massive spectacle lover like I am.

Whether or not you think the show is good or bad, you can't fault Laura Michelle Kelly's performance. See it for her, she's fantastic. When is she due back actually? I believe it's soon, or is she back already?
I saw the tour and LOVED it. Absolutely incredible sets and stage magic. I didn't find it to be boring at all.

Jordan, how did you see no spectacle in this? I honestly thought all of the physical aspects of this production were stunning!

I agree with Jordan. I found it to be a drag. Sure the dancing and other physical aspects were good (Not stunningly amazing), But besides that i didnt feel it. I dont know why everyone is saying the set is amazing. Its good, but its not "Wow". Its not one of the best scenic designs on broadway.
I really enjoyed the show. I had a good time.
It was better than both Tarzan and The Little Mermaid, that's for sure.
Well that's like saying your car accident was better than your house being robbed and your cancer scare.

Personally, i dont like most of the Disney based shows. You go in with high expectations because of the classic films, and most of the time you are left dissapointed (with the exception of Lion King)

It's definitely not the best show out there but I thought it was lovely, I had a wonderful time. I may be biased because I adore the movie and the character of Mary Poppins in general. It was a big part of my childhood so it brought back so many sweet memories.
The sets are really impressive but I think it all comes down to who's playing Mary. We saw it twice and got an understudy the second time, that kind of killed it a bit for me but when we got Laura Michelle Kelly I really enjoyed it, she's a great Mary.

It's Disney's Theatrical Gem like any other Disney theatrical show you have to walk in with an Open mind and it will exceed your expectations both the films and Live Musicals are different experiences is one better than the other? No because they each production stands alone as it's own. I will say that I do Prefer the stage production of Poppins over the original film.

I've seen the show twice now. Once in New York, once in Dallas. Honestly, it's a show I enjoy a lot more after it's over than when I'm actually watching it.
I saw the tour. I also found it boring, and I usually don't get that bored at shows. At least I'd never fallen asleep until Mary Poppins.
