Zane Phillips Replaced in "Messy White Gays" "
I'm not familiar with this new guy, but seems like they stayed on type!
Yes Google returns plenty of photos of him posing in his underwear. He was also a spokesman for some brand of "tanning water?" Which seems like an appropriate product for a mwg to spam
Hahahahaha people will never learn. I hold ACTORS to high esteem not stupid influencers or pop stars (Nicole s) like we’ve seen them disappoint over the last year. But sure go ahead, wag your finger at the incredible Kristin Chenoweth. Some of you have truly terrible instincts about people.
This is now in previews. If anyone sees it, please post your thoughts. Thanks.

Saw last nights 2nd preview. "Funniest thing since Oh Mary" was heard a few times in the lobby after the show. I wouldn't compare the shows at all, but I think we'll be hearing that a lot. It was hilarious. I'm not sure the point, and not one character had a redeeming quality, but you do not stop laughing the entire time. Feels like an A+ episode of a sitcom. Every joke, and there are millions of them, lands. Definitely second preview, still finding some timing and I'm sure there will be some cuts and tweaks, and the middle gets a little one note in tone and energy, but it's safe to say this will be a big crowd pleaser.

Thanks for the review. Sold. I’m seeing it tonight. Their ticketing website was glitching out all day today so I went to TKTS and picked up a super cheap ticket in a great location.
GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
this is the last time I take advice from BroadwayWorld. This thing was utterly repulsive. Vile, stereotypical characters saying vile stereotypical things. Are you idiots trying to get the country to hate us more????? If so, you’re doing a great job. All the jokes are based on current affairs or specific currently trending people, events or situations, which automatically means this show is dated as soon as the current production ends. How does the author think this is going to play 10 years from now, as opposed to Boys in the Band, which does not rely on snippy little insults to current events, and has been playing around the world since the 1960’s?????The jokes are not funny. The audience I was with did not start laughing (and even then, just a few laughs) until the halfway mark. I must say that all the jokes are basically catty insults so members here might enjoy it. I went into this enthusiastic for a great new gay play and exited in depression. Sad. Pathetic. Unfortunate. Especially since the actors are all fantastic.

What precisely were you expecting from a show called Messy White Gays? It sounds like it delivered exactly what the title promised?
Also there's one other opinion here. Calm down with the rhetoric.

Exactly!! Also that one opinion on here so far reads as VERY shilly (I mean chilly!)

I was expecting it to be funny and it was a piece of garbage instead. I wax hoping to like it, so take a seat queen.
I see someone’s thrown their hat into the ring for the title of America’s Sweetheart!

There’s only one America’s Sweetheart hun, and you know who that is. Unless and until you see this vile show, take a seat.

Wait - you found this play "stereotypical" for depicting gay men as "vile" and that all the jokes were just "insults" - and then in the next post you ended it with "so take a seat queen". HAHAHA, that's rich. Like, point of the play made. You ARE Drew Droege's character. This thread could be a page from the script.

No babe. It couldn’t be a page from the script because that script is completely incoherent. Any play that starts with two gay men beating the crap out of what looks like a crash test dummy, while pausing here and there to simulate having sex with the crash test dummy, and then proceeding to beat it to death…..any play that begins with this insane opening….can only go downhill from there. And it does. It’s a truly repulsive excuse for a play.

To be fair, and for the sake of anyone else planning to see this, all the advertising made it clear from the start that's what it's about.

"Look out—Drew Droege is bringing Messy White Gays Off-Broadway, which means bottomless murder is on this brunch menu. The new farce will play The Duke on 42nd Street beginning October 6 ahead of a November 2 opening night, with Mike Donahue at the helm.
In Messy White Gays, boyfriends Brecken and Caden have just murdered their throuple mate and stashed his corpse in a Jonathan Adler credenza, and the gays have just arrived for brunch."

"It’s Sunday morning in Hell’s Kitchen. Brecken and Caden have just murdered their boyfriend and stuffed his body into a Jonathan Adler credenza. Unfortunately, they’ve also invited friends over for brunch. And they’re out of limes!
Feel bad for them!
They’re MESSY WHITE GAYS!"
Your description sounds exactly like what they were selling.

Indeed. What self-respecting gays would have a Jonathan Adler credenza? A vase or lamp? Perhaps. But a case good?

Ah, so based on this premise - is this a sort of send up of Alfred Hitchcock's Rope then?

I'm in town for a week in November. My schedule is pretty full already, but if it's short, I could squeeze in a Saturday 5pm show.
Thanks."
The run time last night was 75 minutes, not counting a typical 10 minute late start time. They even made a pre-show announcement that the run time was 75 minutes.
