Went last night. I think it goes without saying that the show itself is absolutely perfect in terms of its construction and its content. Brian and Nygel are doing absolutely amazing work and I remain in awe of what they accomplished with this show. (Especially Nygel, as he was fighting through a bit of vocal impediment last night due to lingering illness). There were also some hiccups with the live mix for the opening number and both guys played it off with absolute charisma.
HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the new staging is definitely an issue. Whereas at the Minetta, every seat was pretty much full view/unobstructed, here, the partial view house right seats are VERY obstructed - and you have to sit at an angle most of the show to watch it. Of course, the performers spend a good chunk of time in the visible field of view. But this new staging now put the obstructed aspects (mostly Nygel’s early songs) up as a projection on the stage right wall with the same psychedelic filter as other projections. Another downside is that this zone is also directly in the path of some very bright strobe/spot lights and so I did get hit in the eyes more than once. I would be wary of purchasing any seats numbered with even double digits.
