Not many people bothered to read Kad's post, I see.

Furthermore, virtually nothing could improve upon the ironically chilling - and at the same time, sweaty - original Lincoln Center staging.
I think the chances of Roundabout getting behind this piece is somewhat strong. They have done many readings of many stuffy old flop musicals that haven't gone anywhere, but I think this one may lead to something. Roundabout has been criticized a lot lately for their somewhat dusty choice of material. Parade has become a cult favorite and feels fresh and relevant. Especially with Platt involved I think thid has more of a chance than many of their previous readings.
Also, I hate when it is suggested that a musical shouldn't see the light of day twenty years later because nothing can top the original staging. I think that's true of most musicals. Just because something was done well twenty years ago, doesn't mean that it can't be done well now.

Were you fortunate enough to see the original production of Parade?
Not to revive a long dead thread, but does anyone know if anything ever came of this? It sounds like a dream production TBH
I assume they are just waiting for Ben to become available?? I’m curious when/if they are going to film the politician season 2.

Rotten luck! He'll be busy with the Merrily film for the next 20 years!

I'd rather see someone like Ethan Slater or Brandon Uranowitz as Leo

True... but I doubt he who must not be named alongside Ben on the board, would allow roundabout to replace Ben.
There is zero guarantee that this will manifest as a full production. Roundabout conducts dozens of readings every season that never go anywhere beyond that.
Very random, but I went on a date a few months ago with someone who happened to be the niece of Alfred Uhry, and she mentioned that the production is (was at the time) still in talks with Ben as Leo and Michael Arden directing. Obviously that's not confirmation, but I'd say it's pretty solid source information. Rumor on the block is that Roundabout was choosing between this and Caroline, or Change and went with Caroline. Maybe this'll be their revival for the 20/21 season? Who knows, but certainly wouldn't call it dead.

They already have 1776 programmed for their 2020-21 season, so I would expect this until the 2021-22 season at the earliest (if it's still a possibility at all).
I have no way of knowing if Gideon Glick can sing a note, but he might make a good Leo.
Gideon Glick can sing - I saw him in Spring Awakening and Spider-Man (in previews before his role was cut!).
I can't see this production happening though without a "name" like Ben Platt though. Platt is also well-suited to the role, IMO. I could also see Jonathan Groff doing it. However, this is not the kind of show that you make money from producing. Even at the Roundabout they will need at least a demi-celebrity like Platt to get people to come see it.
I love Parade, but I remember being at the second-to-last performance on Broadway before it closed, and even then the theater was half-empty, and the people next to us left at intermission (I'd like to think that they moved up to better seats, but...).

Is Ben Platt a "name"? I'm generally removed from pop-culture, so I am genuinely asking.
For my generation(z) and younger he’s definitely a name, but for the ticket buying audience, absolutely not. Especially for the considerably older roundabout subscribers.
In my dreams:
Daniel Radcliffe.
I think after DEH Ben Platt is definitely a ‘name’. That show rode the post-Hamilton wave of new broadway relevancy right into the average American’s zeitgeist
Stupid question though: Does roundabout only do 1 revival a season? Is there a reason why?

For their Broadway programming, they usually do 2-4 revivals a season, but only 1 musical (if they do one at all - which they didn't a couple years ago)

I see, is this a hard rule? Or just a trend they’ve stuck with.

Don't think it's a hard rule. A few years ago they did Violet and the Cabaret remount in the same season.

I saw it the previous evening: Friday, 2/26/99.
Have an audio of that performance, too.
The original Harold Prince production was definitive IMO. The Rob Ashford Donmar Warehouse revival was a failure. It was staged in LA as a prospective pre-Broadway run and didn't go any further. T.R. Knight was miscast as Frank.

The LA production should have kept Bertie Carvel from Donmar.
Sorry to respectfully disagree with both Alex and Bway Baby 6: I thought TR KNight was pretty brilliant in his role as Leo in that altogether terrific revival at the Taper. It was a distinctly chamber scale production of a show I really think needs the full Broadway treatment to be truly successful, but that aside, that was a great night of theater for us.
