I think this is great news. He needed to come back to the stage in New York.

PATIENCE is a joy.
Good news for sure.
WOW.
I saw the DVD of the production Opera Australia did with Anthony Warlow. It's great to hear Michael Ball will be doing this.

Truly excellent news. :)

Lizzie, if you'd seen him as Count Fosco in the Woman in White it probably would have changed your mind about that. He does charming yet sinister and subtly evil very well!
This is great news...hope he's planning to stay awhile (say Chicago and maybe Broadway in the spring?)

Hmmm. Could he be gearing up for a Broadway return? Perhaps in Woman in White?

Actually REALLY disappointed to hear this. The production was transferring from Glimmerglass Opera House where my professor, Jeffrey Lentz, had the role. (You can see him in the NYC Opera season brochures that were sent out about a month or two ago.) He was to be playing the role but they felt they needed a bigger name so it was given to Ball.
This is interesting. I was wondering what he was doing in NYC when I saw him at SPELLING BEE last week.

Actually he was in town doing the work for his BBC show, Ball Over Broadway. He has been doing this for several years now. He interviews the casts, and production people. I have heard several of these broadcasts and they are quite good.

Eh. It's Michael Ball. He sells tickets. Don't know why.

Well we got it that you don't like him the first time. That's ok..but you could at least check your facts because he was in NYC to record a radio program for BBC Radio 2, Ball over Broadway, something he does every year. Which explains why he was spotted at 3 different shows. If he auditioned for Patience too that's ok...he got the job. Why is having to audition being said like it's some AWFUL thing? I'm sure it didn't hurt his feelings at all, if it's true.

No, it just really surprises me that he had to audition. I'd think that Michael Ball would be offered the role without having to audition. Don't you think that? He's sold enough records and tickets in the past...
And it's not that I don't like him, I just really don't see the interest in him and Crawford. They're so alike and so... I don't know. They just come across as fake to me.
