~ i think he/she'd go into shock to find out dame judi dench originated the roe in the original london production back in 1968.
~ dame judi dench isn't excalty known for her vocal prowess.

"That's So Racist," the new spin-off series based on the popular Disney series "That's So Raven."
"He/she"? I'm a boy (but my ma won't admit it!)
Anyway I'm surprised to hear about all these non singing Sallys. I don't really get the point of that.
Liza is the ultimate Sally, I think we can all agree on that one.

I think we can all agree that you are very ignorant of Cabaret

~ umm..no I can't.
~ and i didn't want to assume your sex. that's why i wrote he/she..at least i didn't refer to you as an "it".
~ and trust me i was tempted....

I've seen the movie half a dozen times but never on stage.
So, Liza is the ultimate because that's the only one you've actually seen?

I heard that Kandner and Ebb wrote the show with Liza in mind but she was "too green" to play it when it first came to Broadway.
~ well lovebwy you'd be surprised to know that the stage version and the screen version of cabaret are extremely different...
~ for instance: fritz wepper and marisa berenson's chracters are not in the stage version, amongst other things...

Great. That has nothing to do with the fact that you are completely ignorant.

And how come the Emcee should get a pass for being a mediocre singer but not Sally?
They both are seedy entertainers in the same seedy club, and that is the beauty of those two.
I'll have to make the trip out from La la Land to see the new revival. I'm intrigued to say the least.
Too green? She was a already a Tony winner. The story is that Hal Prince wanted to keep the character British.
~ i have no respect for anyone who is allegedly a musical theater fan and has absolutely no idea about the musical 'cabaret' and it's origins. the differences between the stage and screen versions or for that matter the fact that whoever plays 'sally' doe not have to be a vocal powerhouse.
~ this info is all musical 101...it's academic...
~ i mean c'mon, what self-respecting musical theater aficionado doesn't know jill haworth was the original 'sally bowles' in cabaret. ugh.
"LOL the 90's are a blur to me. Lots of meth, and I was too poor to ever come to NYC."
Well that explains a lot.
Oh ok I see to remember something about her not being ready. I might be mistaken.

Kad - It doesn't explain the racism but does explain its lack of understanding and knowledge, and perpetuated ignorance.
I knew Jill Haworth was in it, and I may have heard it, but the original Broadway Cabaret was before my time. And as I said I was living in Hollywood at the time of the revival.
For those who seem to have a bizarre visceral reaction to me when I post, I suggest you use the wonderful new "User Ignore" button. I think it would make us all much happier.
Hope this helps.

~ that's no excuse. the original broadway cast recording is still in print.
~ the 1998 broadway revival cast recording is still in print.
~ if you had any knowledge about the material and it's various incarnations you wouldn't have wondered why anyone here wasn't questioning michelle williams' singing ability.
~ you're misinformed and you have no clue what you're talking about.
~ watching the 1972 film a dozen times doesn't make you qualified.

Ok so I've learned the stage play is different from the movie. I don't see the need to get all snippy about it!
“Anyway I'm surprised to hear about all these non singing Sallys. I don't really get the point of that.”
“She is a singer at an underground club called The Lady Windermere. Isherwood describes her singing as poor but surprisingly effective "because of her startling appearance and her air of not caring a curse what people thought of her"
Sally can't sing songs well, but she can sell them well. That's what matters and always has.
Thank you Theaterdiva, for being kind enough to post that without any of the negative ugly comments about my character.
