I completely agree with you! The speech at the end was i out of line and inappropriate. Mike Pence was just there as a customer/audience member to see a show. Good for him for making it a priority to support the arts! An apology should be issued.

Do some research on the guy and see what he believes and has done against LGBT people. He's scum.

I wonder if Mike Pence has ever gotten to know an LGBT person on a close personal level ?
There was a great story in the New York Times about the son of a white supremacist group leader. He left home to attend a liberal arts college with an ethnically diverse student body. Overtime the friendships he made at this school made him alter the world view that he was raised with.
I think that the speech that the Hamilton cast made was the correct thing to do and that the audience shouldn't have booed Pence. The best way to change the mind of a bigot is to connect with and educate them.

Maybe Ivanka recommended it.

He didn't make it a priority at all - his people called the production earlier that day to get tickets, when I had to buy them in June to see it next March. For all the reasons given on this thread, no apology is in order.

It a kind of amusing that they granted his request to deliver this speech. Even had Lin work on it. And he probably didn't hear any of it
Oh, F*CK OFF to everyone saying Pence deserves the respect of a regular ticket holder.
The point is he is NOT a regular ticket holder. Theatre isn't a right that everyone deserves, it's a privilege! A privilege that's provided by mainly LGBTQI+ and POC as well as supporters of those minorities. Theatre always has been and forever will be an escape and sanctuary for those who fear being themselves to the rest of the world.
Any man who threatens that sanctuary or those who reside there and then has the balls to enter said sanctuary should absolutely feel the wrath of the audience.
He would love nothing more than to inflict pain, suffering and inhuman torture on most of the people on that stage and there's some people on here saying he genuinly didn't deserve the boos? There's a special place in hell for those people.

Brandon has said that Pence heard it all in the lobby.
"Why the hell did Pence see Hamilton?!?"
It is a great show and about the history of our country, makes perfect sense for Pence to want to see the show.
He is not "just" a ticket holders. He is the vice-president elect, and subject to whatever comments the public wants to make. I'm sure any company member was given permission to leave the stage if the were not in agreement.
And to those supporting pence? his values of non white, non Christian, non straight, non cis persons are worse then Trump's
"Seriously, u think Pence cares? Sticks and Stones- he'll break bones, these words will never hurt him."
Exactly, this will mean absolutely nothing to him. Really, do people honestly think he did not know something like this was coming. I

Really. I am going to assume he paid for the tickets so why does he not deserve the respect of a regular ticket holder. I can't imagine the cast of this show gave him the tickets for free - lol.
I support the audience reaction while recognizing that I would have been apoplectic if the same thing happened to Obama at a NASCAR event 8 years ago. Yes, I know it's hypocritical. That's what makes me human.
I loved the speech. I wish it had gone one step further. It needed to draw a clear distinction between the gender mix and color pallet of the cabinet that Pence has been forming and the people on the stage who reflect their constituents.
"I support the audience reaction while recognizing that I would have been apoplectic if the same thing happened to Obama at a NASCAR event 8 years ago. Yes, I know it's hypocritical. That's what makes me human. "
I give you lots of credit for admitting it.

But what factual motivation would there have been for booing Obama 8 years ago? That crowd last night was booing a known biggot. The two are not equatable.

Not the best example of Love Trumping Hate...
The audience may have a right to act as they please...Personally, I tend to agree with the idea of "when they go low, we go high."
There's a time and place for everything...Was this the best time and place? We could debate this for twenty pages and imagine we will...

Certain members of the audience certainly went low in this case but for Dixon and the cast, I'm glad they stated "there's nothing to boo here" as they and the producers were still Pence's hosts as Pence was their VIP guest.

There is no equivalence between Mike Pence and Obama. Mike Pence has actively endorsed bigotry against most of the people in that building last night. The only thing Obama ever did to his critics is be black.

lol the average rating of Hamilton on facebook dropped to 4.8 over night lol.

@yankeefan7 The answer you're looking for is literally in my original post. My post that you've obviously read yet still require further explanation - lol.
Don't play stupid. You know exactly why he doesn't deserve any form of respect, let alone from people in a show that promotes diversity - lol.
It's not rude to say what they did. They had the chance to speak for most of us and they literally did not throw away their shot.

Good. But that's still about twice as high as it deserves.
About time people woke up and smelled the coffee.
