Miss Saigon Broadway Transfer

Maybe it's just extreme wishful thinking on my part, but I'm banking on a vietnamese actress somewhere in the world who will show up to a Miss Saigon audition and kill it. Maybe I'm wrong though, there might not be anyone with those exact qualifications.

I don't believe every single casting decision in every single show needs to be exact down to the DNA. But a show about life in Vietnam with a Vietnamese descent cast would be nice. I'm probably just being overly sentimental though.

If this particular production transfers, I suspect all American AEA members would be offered the option of transfering. I can't see the entire cast transferring because suitable replacements in this country could be found.

I'd bet Eva Noblezeda and Jon Jon Briones would transfer. Miss Saigon coming back to Broadway would lead to more exposure of an under-represented group of American actors. While The King and I, the recent run of Here Lies Love, and the upcoming Allegiance ate providing more options for actors with Asian backgrounds, more chances the better.

Ashley Park has actually performed in three productions of Miss Saigon - once as Kim, once as Yvonne, u/s Kim and once in the ensemble. I think she would be an excellent choice to play Gigi or as the Kim alternate when Miss Saigon does eventually come to Broadway.

My first choice for Ellen in the eventual Broadway transfer would be Kristine Reese, who is currently playing Catherine on the Pippin tour - for sure. And her husband Billy Harrigan Tighe would be an excellent Chris.

I agree that if Eva does transfer to Broadway then Ashley Park SHOULD be the Kim alternate; it is perfect for Park after playing Tuptim. Her voice does have different ranges.

Now that Doctor Zhivago just posted its closing notice, does anyone think Cameron Mackintosh has got his eye on the Broadway Theatre?

I feel like Miss Saigon should wait one more season, considering Allegiance and Les Miserables both overlap with it in target demographics. I'd say it should wait until at least one of those shows is gone.

well, The Broadway Theater is now available.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

There's been a reshuffle of theatres in Toronto next year, and it was assumed that it was to accommodate a pre-Broadway run in the same Toronto theatre that hosted its '90s sitdown.

Fiddler hasn't yet announced a theatre so the Broadway might be an option, the new production of Saigon isn't as big as the original so I wouldn't rule out the Imperial as a potential theatre.

Friends here in the UK production have also heard that it won't be on Broadway until spring 2016; possibly at the Imperial Theatre after Les Miz closes.

I think Bartlett Sher's upcoming revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF will take the Broadway Theater after DOCTOR ZHIVAGO closes.

Going back to the original question, I'd LOVE to see Ramin Karimloo as Chris.

Because he's maybe just a touch older than a typical Chris, a Kim a couple years older than Eva might be fitting.

Maybe Ramin would like to do something he has not done before.  He did the UK tour over 10 years ago.  Since then he has been in LM and some form of Phantom.

I heard a rumor that it could actually get the Winter Garden... but Webber wants it bad for the Cats revival too... I think it would be much better at the Imperial... Les Mis is on it's last leg...

Either way I hope to some higher power that this transfers next season!

I thought SCHOOL OF ROCK already had the Winter Garden?

Just remembering you've had an "and" When you're back to "or" Makes the "or" mean more than it did before

I wouldn't be surprised if Cats ends up at the Neil Simon since ALW has a relationship with Nederlander and his last few shows both revivals and new have been in their theatres although School of Rock at the Winter Garden is the exception to this but that is being produced by both Nederlander and the Shubert Organisation.

I'm betting no new musicals are going to want to go up against HAMILTON and so next season is going to be the year of the revival. Though, SAIGON and CATS in one season seems a little too much 80s British Invasion Re-dux (and this is coming from a Brit).
