I just read on CNN's site that they have cast David Hyde Pierce as Sir Robin (and there was much rejoicing!) and Hank Azaria as Sir Lancelot. Oh the joy. I wonder if we can use my
husbands' flyer miles to go to Chicago?

Who do you think will be Sir Galahad the Pure ("A spanking! A spanking!") Or the Sorcerer Tim...
Or the guy who asks "What is your name? What is your quest? What is the air speed of a coconut-laden sparrow?"

Blasphemy!
It's "What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

Oops--I mis-remembered the line...
The on-going gag about the airspeed of the swallow is priceless.
And the killer rabbit...
And "Bring us a shrubbery!"
This is going to be such a fun production.

It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

It could be a sing-a-long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In fact, I'll give you guys the lyrics to the one song I know is going to be in there for sure, and then you'll all have it memorized by the time the show opens!
Now Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
We're Knights of the Round Table.
We dance whene'er we're able.
We do routines and chorus scenes
With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Camelot.
We eat ham and jam and SPAM A LOT.
[dance break]
We're Knights of the Round Table.
Our shows are formidable,
But many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable.
We're opera mad in Camelot.
We sing from the diaphragm a lot.
[dance break with the guy in the dungeon clapping]
In war we're tough and able,
Quite indefatigable.
Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable.
It's a busy life in Camelot.
Baritone Solo:
I have to push the pram a lot.
On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. 'Tis a silly place.

And they had better include the most important scenes in the movie....
"She's a witch! Burn her!" (might I suggest a Idina or Cheno cameo just for laughs?)
OR
"Bring out your dead!"

my all time favorite quote from that movie is:
"And the Lord spoke, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'"

Minstrel:
Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!
His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen--
Robin:
That's enough music for now, lads

Posted: 7/8/04 at 12:08amIm kind of afraid that the stage show wont be as good as the movie was. That is true classic and I feel like no one would be able to perform those parts as well as the original Monty Python cast members. However with the cast they are getting they might be able to pull it off.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 1:02amWill there be any new dialogue/material in the show, or will it just be Holy Grail with new songs? I'm thinking the former, or else why rename the show?

King, looking out the window: "Someday, son, this will be all yours."
Son: "What? The curtains?"
And, of course:
"Run Away! Run Away!"
If it has the familiar lines...it'll be hard for this not to become a sort of Rocky Horror Picture Show with audience participation.

Posted: 7/8/04 at 8:29amI read where they said that they are essentially keeping the original dialogue, but enhancing it by putting in songs and extra bits. They know we know all the lines, so they want to appeal to the purists as well as exposing the genre to a new audience. Anyone seeing it previews in Chicago HAS to post immediately after seeing it in December!!!
