Moulin Rouge Colonial Theatre Previews

the photo of the set from instagram is absolutely stunning! but a few of the posts confused me, did it start performances on June 27th or was it 6 days ago?
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

Previews for this show started July 10th due to a construction issue in the auditorium, according to this article:

Oh.  My.  Goddess.  I just went cray-cray and will be flying in from San Fransissyco to see the performance of 8/7.  Aisle seat in row J of the dress circle.  My nephew managed Aaron once, but am not certain if he still does or not.  I'll find out though.  Fingers crossed.

I love this and I hope your nephew still manages him for your sake. Either way enjoy the show.

Thanks so much!  My first visit to Boston.

I don't have an exact answer for you, but it was a few rows behind me, so I'm guessing around row N? That's not as far back as it sounds. The passerelle extends to where row B would normally be.

The sketches are nice. Did they make Satine a redhead again for the stage? She has auburn hair in the drawings...

Karen Olivo kept her natural hair color (black) for the performance I saw, and the two promo stills that have been released show the same!

Seeing this tomorrow night.  A friend is part of the design team so i'm hoping I can get them to take me around backstage after the performance.  Will keep you all posted.

So according to that one, they've now switched the song that Satine sings to Christian at the end back to Come What May, like in the movie? Can anyone confirm?
"

As of Sunday, it was still Your Song.

Seeing it next Thursday(26th).

Is security still doing the metal detector thing or has that been put to rest?

If it's still intact, do they hold the curtain until everyone is seated?

Surely someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the metal detectors are standard operating procedure for the Ambassador Theatre Group, at least in BOS and NYC.  They tell you to get to there early to accommodate the extra screening.

They aren't going anywhere.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Those are, I expect, permanent additions to the Colonial. Post-Marathon bombing, a lot of Boston venues are taking security more seriously than ever. It's inconvenient, maybe, but it's not that intrusive. No more so than the bag checks at the Shubert in NYC imo.

I stopped by the theatre today and asked the BO personnel about the metal detectors.  She said that they’re learning and if there is a hold up because of staff they will hold the curtain until everyone is seated.

Took the train up to Boston for the matinee today (and briefly met CT2NYC in person!).

Mostly echoing the same things people said on this board, except I'm not attached to the songs in the movie as much as others seem to be. I'm indifferent on the old vs new songs.

The theater was stunning but fyi the seats are TIGHT like the tightest broadway theaters (the people around me who were taller were really squashed). Costumes/sets were all spectacular spectacular, even better in person.

Really liked what they did with the Duke character, it was much more realistic to make him desirable, offering Satine the finer things in life while bringing her into the 'upper class' society.

No chemistry between the 2 leads at all. They basically said "oh, we're in love now". My husband loved my dog more than Christian loved Satine in this show (and he did not like my dog).

I think the highlight for me was Roxanne. Finally in the 2nd act we see some deeper emotion from Aaron. Wonderful arrangement. Really looking forward to that on the cast recording.

The people around me were losing their minds. The theater was probably only ~70% filled but the crowd reaction rivaled with the full house of Harry Potter fans early in the run.

Hoo boy, they really need to fix that ending though.

Satine proclaims she is choosing the Duke, they do the show (sort of), Aaron runs on stage and threatens to kill himself, they kiss and she dies in his arms. No shock or outcry from Aaron (he should take note from Jamie Parker), no altercation with the Duke or so much as a reaction from him. The Duke isn't even in the scene. And then it just ends.

And a narrator is usually not necessary but there are 2 narrators which is extremely unncessary.

All in all a fun show, but if you don't know the movie, there are some pretty gaping plot holes.

re: the metal detectors, the line to go through them was lighting fast. They’re not nearly the intrusion they probably were for that first preview.
