Can we please have just one thread that stays on topic? Most of us really, really, REALLY are just here to talk theatre.
I for one am curious about the reasoning behind some of the more controversial changes to this show. My biggest "complaint" is twofold: why make the running love theme "Your Song" instead of "Come What May", and why on earth would they replace "One Day I'll Fly Away"?

Agreed. I’m currently in the part of the movie with "One Day I'll Fly Away" and it’s beautiful. I never realized (or had forgotten) how much the movie foreshadows Santine’s death including this song. It’s truly beautiful.
Third preview tonight. I spotted Alex Timbers this time.
No major changes, but it looks like Satine's moment of short breath during her Diamonds number seemed much tighter, as did the entire pitch sequence. The only actual change is that the Duke is no longer present during the final scene when the lovers come together again and Satine dies. In the second preview he was in his box, shakes his head and almost understands the errors of his way.

This is what I love about theatre: I had the opposite feeling about the Duke in the final scene, so it's really neat seeing others' opinions. I thought his head shake and little salute/wave was more of a "You've made your bed, now line in it" kind of kiss-off, like he was going to pull his money out of the show and let the club fold! Interesting they took it out--I wonder if the feedback they got was that people were confused which interpretation was "correct" and wanted to sidestep a potentially messy book moment?
There isn’t much they can do now in terms of sequencing and whatnot as they’ve lost a good of time but hopefully they make the changes needed between Boston and nyc

I thought the switch to "Your Song" worked well enough; to me, it made things a little more personal when Christian was singing to Satine. But I think the primary reason they did it was probably that the song is more recognizable to the general public, as opposed to people who know the movie?
I saw the show tonight and, for the most part, really enjoyed it. After reading some of the stuff here, I sort of expected to hate it. I’ll writr my full thoughts tomorrow when I’m not so tired. It I’m glad I saw it and think if they’re smart and make the changes needed, this could have a pretty long life on broadway.
Ypu might be the first from the boards to win...so methinks you'll be providing the answer

Saw the show last night from the Diamond VIP seats and just thought I’d share some of my experience. A lot of how I felt about the show has been covered (dialogue needs fixing, why did they mess with Tango Roxanne, maybe some cuts and tweaks here and there but overall extremely entertaining and the sets and costumes and choreography were phenomenal. I also thought the whole cast just slayed it. The ensemble blew my mind, and I thought Karen and Aaron were wonderful. I also did not cry when Satine died and I cry at EVERYTHING, so I do think some of the drama needs to be amped up and we need to feel for for them).
Onto the VIP seating: SEATING: It is a VERY SMALL SPACE. Like you are really crammed in there. And if you have a choice, pick the front tables over the back. The back was a long bench across as opposed to chairs. The front were all chairs. And the tables were smooshed close to the bench and the tables were bolted down. The bench was not the most comfortable thing I’ve ever been on. Also, be prepared for neck pain. A lot of looking up, looking behind and around. You will miss some stuff, like Satine’s entrance, and some of the dancing that happens on the Passerelle, but it is super cool being that close in the show and all the major stuff happens centre stage. You did feel like part of it. The cast often sings right to you, one girl got her hair touched, but that is all the interaction that happens. You mostly just watch. It’s awesome to see the costumes and sets up close. The detail on them is incredible. And seeing the expressions so close on the actors’ faces was amazing. If I was going to see the show again, I probably would not choose the VIP, but it was a cool experience and I don’t regret doing it.
Also, after the show, the stage door was one of the craziest I’ve been to (and I stage doored the OBC of Hamilton and DEH). The line went all the way from the stage door, down the alley and spilled onto the sidewalk and around the corner. It was also double sided. Like I’m pretty sure most of the audience was there. Aaron did not come out, but Karen and a lot of the rest of the cast did, and took their time, even though I’m sure they were exhausted and that amount of people must have been overwhelming.

I did not win, but thought I'd add that they did send a lotto loser offer this morning; however, I wasn't quick enough so I continue to get the message that all of the tickets are currently on hold in others' carts. It's early enough in the run that I'm not going to resort to just buying a regular price ticket quite yet (living here helps!) but I am glad that they've expanded the lottery to every performance and that for at least some performances, they'll do the lotto loser offer (which btw is $59/ticket, plus I'd imagine about $10 in fees - no indication of seat location up front).

Interesting. I lost two other times and they did not have a lotto loser option.

Yeah, I've been entering for every performance and it's the first I've seen it too. Will be interesting to see if it ends up being offered for most performances or if it's more of a rarity...guess it'll probably depend on word of mouth and how brisk sales become.
Edit after evening lottery: This morning the lotto loser offer came right at the 10 AM cutoff time. Today when 4 PM passed I figured it wasn't happening, when about ten minutes later TodayTix notified me of the offer. Despite immediately tapping it, all tickets were being held yet again. Not sure if they stagger those notifications or what but luck is not on my side today!
many thank yous to early attendees posted their first impressions.
im very excited to see this when it hits new york and think this could be one of the hot shows of the 2018-19 season if they can find a good house and launch in spring 2019.....
Why are you telling random lies? What do you have to base that on? Him coming out to stage door after shows? Because that usually happens. If you knew anything about him or have seen him in his shows, you would know that.
