Does anyone know of any other plans for movie musicals on DVD or television musicals?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Do you think they will ever make Les Mis into a movie?

I'd rather Mermaid wait a year, then Disney could include a feature The Making of the Broadway Show like they did for BATB and LK. Perhaps, if rehearsals begin, they could have a Preview the Broadway Show feature.

After the poor performance of PHANTOM, I don't they'll ever make a LES MIZ movie. If they haven't done it yet, they almost certainly won't now.

Didn't someone post an article a few months ago on this board that said Mackintosh had renewed his plans to make a Les Miserables movie?

There is a Les Mis movie mand in 98- Liam Neeson being Valjean (Uma was Fantine)- but it isn't a musical, and it sucks. Ha.

Actually, the movie of "Les Miserable" is quite good, IMO. But I don't think they will make a movie of the musical. It is an opera, really, and I don't think it could work on film. Look how awful "Evita" was!

There have been numerous film versions of LES MISERABLES (the book) over the decades. The one with Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush and Uma Thurman begins very strongly, but veers off-course once they get to Paris.

Years ago there was talk of doing a television musical of LES MIS. No word since.

Nope. In fact, he probably won't be.

Some pics from Across the Universe turned up on the net yesterday.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Evita could have been better.
I didn't like Phantom on stage, nor did I like the film.

I really hope Ragtime gets done. That would be...epic.
I'd like Disney to give "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" the ultimate DVD treatment. I know there's the one with the extended film a short featurette, but if they did what they did with "Mary Poppins" last year, I'd be thrilled.

I liked Evita. Even is you didn't, I don't understand calling it awful. If for no other reason that the cinematography was gorgeous. Oh well. And Phantom was not awful either. I am not saying I liked it al all. But not awful. Raul. ah, Raul.

Evita's cinematography was great I'll admit that. Some of the new stuff ruined. Antonio Bandares (spelling?) was the part of the film I didn't care for. I felt as if he was too relaxed to play Che.

I think Les Mis. would work great on film if done correctly. Although, the fact is, Les Mis would be a "big" movie, it would have to have a big budget, but I think a lot of people would go see it. They'd need a few "names" in there though to get people to go. I think that's where Phantom lost out.
