F.T.W.!!
This is going to be SO legendary <3 (okay that was cheesy, but I had to make some kind of How I Met Your Mother reference haha)
Hugh Jackman, the year he won the Tony for The Boy from Oz.
Nathan Lane, both the year he won for Forum and for The Producers (the later co-hosted with Matthew Broderick).
perfection! Handsome, has great theatre ties and a wonderful person.
YES! I am so excited about this - I can't believe the Tonys actually choose my dream host!
Can anyone come up with even the most obscure justification for having Jason Segel join him onstage to do their version of Confrontation from Les Miserables? Really, I'll take anything, however tangential.

Nice! My birthday night is going to be a fun one!
As far as the post about CBS going to PBS...I'm confused! The awards are on CBS. Did I miss something?

I am obviously pretty psyched about this choice.
The TONYS offered him the hosting duties and he ACCEP . . . Wait for it . . .

He's going to be fabulous.
That being said, he's not going to draw in a lot of views. However, hosts that were a lot more well known than he (Whoopi, Hugh Jackman, etc.) didn't either, so I don't have any issue with this.
He'll draw lots of viewers from theatre fans - who were probably going to watch anyway. In all honesty I've been bouncing this off of people here in the office and they've either said 'who's that?' or 'the name's familiar' - but they just can't place him.
So excited! I think he'll be excellent! Now if only cheno joins him to co-host.
He's a perfect choice to host!

I am totally okay with this.
Tis a fine choice indeed. Are there really that many people who don't know who he is? (and yes, some might only know him if you said "Doogie Howser," but I'd wager it'd be about the same percentage who would only know Angela Lansbury if you said "that snoopy Murder She Wrote woman.")
And non-theatre-fans will never watch the Tony Awards no matter who the host is. I don't particularly care for football, and I highly doubt I'd tune in for a game even if I heard Maggie Smith would be doing the play-by-play. (ok, maybe I would for a few minutes
)
I'm simply saying that this choice will definitely appeal to those who were going to watch anyway and it won't mean a thing to those who weren't. I don't believe that attracting viewers could have played much of a part in the decision.
YES! Rock the EFF on.
I am MORE than okay with this. Yay NPH!

This'll be AWESOME.
I'd die if he brought his character "Dr. Horrible" on the Tony stage. XD

Yowza! I just hope they USE him throughout and not just in 2 or 3 places.
And I second an appearance by Dr. Horrible!!!! 'Twould be fun!
Oh my gosh! I've been hoping for this ever since I saw Dr. Horrible, but I never thought it would actually happen! This is actually the thing that interests me the most about this year's Tonys, given that I wasn't all that thrilled about most of this year's shows.
I mean he's not a HUGE name, but he's a great choice. He's an actor who actually enjoys the theater and enjoys supporting it. So I like that.
I'm excited. I just wish they'd extend the musical sequences, or show better clips from the plays. Or something different.
Love him but I thought they were trying to get more viewers. This definitely won't do the trick.
