Hey everyone... we all know about JRB, Lippa, LaChiusa, Kitt, etc etc... but there's a whole generation beyond those guys that are doing some incredible work. Just came across the music of Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen - it's incredible!! At the fear of sounding cheesy, I can honestly say that these guys are the future of musical theatre. Check out their their music at myspace.com/millerandtysen
Who are some other writing teams out there? J. Oconer Navarro? Pete Mills? Peter Foley? Brian Lowdermilk? I'm sure there are many more... anxious to hear some feedback!!
Steven Jamail and Ryann Ferguson. Saw Byzantium at Fringe in 2005... weird production, but great score. Also saw a workshop of Clarissa, which was awesome. Newest thing, VOTE!, apparently is super well funded and getting a lot of interest. www.votethemusical.com

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I would love to hear demos and recordings these people, if anyone has or knows where to find them. I love listening to stuff like that. And, I'm going to agree with Pasek and Paul. They are fantastic.
I've heard selections from the "Vote!" score...SO cute! It sounds really fun! I can't wait to see where it goes! I second the vote for Steven Jamail and Ryann Ferguson. Updated On: 1/13/08 at 12:36 AM
And who really hears any of this new theatre music? HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and HANNAH MONTANA are going silver platinum because they target a specific market. Broadway has championed a generation of rather listless, generic composer/lyricists. Funny enough, the commerical viablity of a Broadway score has all but disappeared. Ask a real record producer in Nashville or L.A.if he/she is familiar with Andrew Lippa or Peter Mills. This music has nothing to do with what is happening in the amazing techno revolution of digital music and does nothing to attract new listeners. And very sadly, there is less and less interest in the product. At least Alan Menken and Elton John undertand the concept of constructed "SONG", with an actual hook. It's all very sad. No wonder Disney so easily cornered the marketplace.
seriously that man makes me so happy. His music is brilliant and so beautiful.
