What are some non-romantic scenes followed by or preceeding male/female duets, not of the romantic nature, i.e. not ending in a kiss...examples include Mix Tape from Ave Q and The Dr. is In from YAGMCB..
THANKS!!!
First one that came to mind was the scene preceding "Marie's Law" from "Fiorello." There's also the "More I Cannot Wish You" scene from "Guys and Dolls." Will post others if I can think of any.

The Tango Maureen (Rent)
A Little Fall of Rain (Les Mis)

And there are a lot in A Little Night Music.
Some of the ones already mentioned seem pretty romantic in nature to me...

anything you can do - annie get your gun
please - miss siagon
there once was a man - the pajama game
a little priest - sweeney todd
it couldn't please me more - cabaret (it is about love, but is very mild - it centers around a pineapple so how lovey-dovey can it be?)
here are just some from the top of my head :)
"A Little Fall of Rain (Les Mis) "
Right unromantic...??? WTF?
"My Girl Back Home" from South Pacific. Truly a platonic song; Cable is singing about how far away he is from his girl and town, and Nellie is singing of how she misses her own town. No romance whatsoever between them.
Avenue Q - Fantasiees Come True
Billy Elliot - The Letter
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Tear Jerk
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Hey There, Single Guy/Gal
Legally Blonde - Serious
Next To Normal - You Don't Know/I Am The One (With minor tweaks)
Shrek - I Think I Got You Beat
Spamalot - The Song That Goes like This (Despite the lyric that says "Ends up with a kiss")
That's all I can think of...Hope it helps in some way!

"Who Taught Her Everything She Knows?" FUNNY GIRL (Mother and Mentor)
"How Can Love Survive?" SOUND OF MOUCOUS (Elsa and Max...kinda fun, actually.)
"Big D" MOST HAPPY FELLA.... though you have to get rid of the ensemble....
Saw a production of PIPPIN with the "Leading Player" a female: "On the Right Track"
"You're the Top"....pretty much any version of various show uses.
"Friendship"...ditto.
"Shall We Dance?". Although the romance is sequestered and squelched, but present.

-"My New Philsophy" isn't really a duet w/ equal weit to both parties - Schroeder just provides focus for Sally, but it's fun!
I'm not really sure what you're after, so most of the songs I found are between romantinc partners but not really romantic in & of themselves.
-There are several songs from A Class Act that are either appropriate or could be made into duets easily.
-A couple of the songs from A Year with Frog & Toad can be made into duets & are are gender-neutral. Maybe not what you had in mind, but creative.
-Try Fiddler - Do You Love Me? (SORT OF romantic - are you just trying to keep kids from kissing or something?)
-Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop doesn't HAVE to end in a kiss.
-Try Jane Eyre - Secret Soul (how do you feel about counterpoint?)
-Purple Summer from Spring Awakening - might take too much re-tooling.
Good luck!
