Totally agree regarding revions, but I think First Daughter had some stunning orchestrations. Masterful work with limited resources (eg instruments).
Also - "The band is killing me" just about summarizes this show. It is so underwhelming.
I'm wondering if/when we are going to see any more performances?
My video cut out when Savion Glover was telling the story about his awards that he gave to his mother. What happened to them?

Well they're all quite tongue in cheek.
Like, the Director presenter walked out to "Stand" because that's what a director does...tells you to "stand in the place where you are." "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" for choreography, etc. While Sunshine is definitely not "on brand" for Eclipsed, they're just playing off the..astral thing. They should have played "Total Eclipse of the Heart" though.
Wow! I was expecting Doyle or Arden not Sher!
Bartlett Sher gave a fine thank you speech, but really?? FIDDLER winning best musical director over SPRING AWAKENING or THE COLOR PURPLE? Hard to fathom...

I love Bart Sher but this is ludicrous.
I'm also surprised that Sher won, but I have to say that Doyle's direction was, to me, really dreadful. Wolfe, Paulus, and Elliott were all more deserving. Of the actual nominees, I'd have gone with Arden for sure, though.
Definitely was not expecting Sher, but I'm actually quite glad with it. His work was phenomenal—just in a dense season.
They did play "Total Eclipse of the Heart" to introduce the Eclipsed ensemble. They played "Walking on Sunshine" because Danai Gurira is on The Walking Dead.

I don't see how having a half deaf cast is necessarily good direction, so I don't see how Arden was robbed of anything. That SA revival was very average.
Doyle deserved this one.
Frank Langella just delivered the best speech of the night.
I think my "Why the heck did Sher win?" was dwarfed by "Why the heck are they playing Backstreet Boys to bring Sher on stage?"
"I Want it That Way" - I thought it was clever.
And Jessica Lange is actually coherent!
John Doyle DID win!! It was a tie!
WOW! JOHN DOYLE KERFUFFLE!

He said he gave all of his awards to his mother, who kept them in the garage at their house in Montclair, but he went on tour for 6-8 months, and never saw them again when he came back, so he was going to hold onto this Drama Desk instead of giving it to his mom.

Ah! I missed that. Now I am content, thank you!

Don't they typically announce ties all at once? I remember when Lauren Worsham and Anika Larsen both won, they went up together, right?

I think because they put the winners names on two different pieces of paper, he didn't realize it was a tie.
