Cynthia's dress looks like it is straight out of costume from Shuffle Along. :)

beltingbaritone, thanks for letting me know what Savion Glover said!
Danny Burstein and Cynthia Erivo were being a bit disingenuous about the "I never win anything" bit. They both won Outer Critics Circle Awards in their categories earlier this month, and Danny Burstein has a Drama Desk already (he won in 2012 for Follies).
Can someone explain what Michael Cerveris was saying (or trying to say) about Robert Fairchild? It came across like an insult, but I don't think he meant it that way. Fairchild won the Drama Desk last year, but Cerveris (who won the Tony) wasn't eligible because Fun Home opened Off-Broadway the year before. So they weren't competitors.

Cerveris called Fairchild the wrong name during his Tony speech last year.

Bay Jones' performance was incredible. As moving as it was on stage. LaChiusa was robbed thrice.

Oops I Did It Again for best revival of a play. This band is insanely witty.

Out of the whole musical songbook that ever existed, they play Oops I Did It Again...

The band playing Dancing Queen for Chita Rivera. I love them. Get this band on the Tonys please.

Not gonna lie, the way Benj Pasek & Justin Paul were standing I thought they were gonna kiss before Justin thanked his wife. Sigh.

RW3, thanks for clarifying that! I had completely forgotten about Cerveris's flub at the Tonys last year.
In case anyone is curious, Frank Langella is 78. Jessica Lange is 67. Chita Rivera is 83. Sheldon Harnick is 92(!).

She Loves Me best revival, Shuffle Along best musical.
Happy with all those wins, except I would have liked Arden to get director. Knew it wasn't likely with it being closed though.
Also would have given Sara best score.

Michael John LaChuisa has 13 Drama Desk nominations and not a single win. I thought he'd at least get Book this year.

It's a downright shame, IdinaBellFoster. Happy for Shuffle Along, but sad that First Daughter Suite won nothing. It's just wrong.

I was really pulling for Waitress to win but I expected Shuffle Along to take it and I'm very happy for them. I'm disappointed that Sara Bareilles didn't win either of the categories in which she was nominated because I personally think her lyrics and score are both fantastic.
And cue Ken Davenport taking all the credit in the world for Daddy Longlegs winning an award.

So in terms of musicals
Shuffle Along - 4
She Loves Me - 4
American Psycho - 3
The Color Purple - 2
Fiddler on the Roof - 2
Daddy Long Legs - 1
Dear Evan Hansen - 1
Bright Star - 1
Waitress - 1
Hopefully this will satisfy those who love awards being evenly spread.

Is Michael John LaChuisa an acquired taste? I love his work but I know others who viscerally hate it. Sad to see him so often nominated and not winning anything. I still hold out pointless hope that his Queen of the Mist, with Mary Testa will come back to life.
Congrats to all, especially She Loves Me.

Does it strike anyone else as weird that the Best Musical Revival and the Best New Musical of the Year both boasted directors who weren't even nominated!? Strange year indeed, but at least they're spreading the wealth around.

I'm glad we got to hear Danai Gurira speak after her special award because her speech was fantastic and included the line "I'm calling bull**** on the notion that only some stories get to be told."
And I'm especially glad she got to speak because unfortunately there was a lack of diversity and women represented in the creative award winners (and nominees).
