I believe Kroll & Mulaney both presented at the 2017 Tonys?
I'm sure Cole will be asked to present, though not in any way that could be seen as taking away from a show that they are introducing.
Broadway must stop being so protective of itself. It's okay to laugh at things. Broadway has done many idiotic things in the past, protected problematic people, tried to spin not-important things as important, and tried to create an overly wholesome view of itself. Every Oscars ceremony has at least 5 minutes where the film industry and certain projects are bashed...we'd lucky to get 2 minutes on the Tonys.
Side note, anyone with the clout to buy an ad lampooning Phil Birsch's Playbill Letter (that has now been there more than a year) would get my respect for life.

Yup and Jones is likely Swept Away. MSAQ isn't coming in...
As for Mary!, I admit I'm nervous to see this again in, well, mixed company. It was distinctly different to see A Strange Loop Off-Bway to Bway. True, audiences were mostly straight and white in both, but Playwrights' has a core audience going to experience new voices, while Bway audiences want entertainment. While Loop easily gave the former, and certainly also gave the latter, it did so with large dose of provocation.
It'll be curious to see if the laughs are the same for Mary! uptown. Bway is far more likely to have audiences that have never even heard the theory Lincoln was gay, setting aside the many other queer camp sensibilities of this.

@kad I hope it was the Pillowman with Googly eyes that sent Charlotte St. Martin right of over the edge.
I can’t imagine that this production wouldn’t try to qualify for Tony awards, because there is always a chance that Cole could be nominated as an actor, and depending how many plays come a long next year it could certainly snag a best play nomination.

...Huh?
Nearly every show that comes to Broadway is eligible for the Tonys. There's no reason why it wouldn't be eligible in every Play category. (Whether it gets those noms is another matter.) Always assume that a play or musical is eligible until officially informed otherwise. SUNDAY IN THE PARK is the only modern example I can think of where a narrative play or musical specifically chose not to be Tony-eligible, and that was a very weird and unique situation.
It will also be another opportunity for hooplah surrounding binary acting categories, being that Cole is a nonbinary actor playing a female character.

The show was already sold out for those dates before she posted yesterday. But it's wonderful that she did post about it.

I can attest to that. I attempted to purchase tickets at 12:30pm ET on the day of the announcement and those dates were already sold out.

At least the producers know they can easily sell the house at those prices ($49-$99)! I'm presuming the show has already recouped its off-Broadway run given how it's currently sold out for the remainder of its run and extended twice.
What do you guys think will be the weekly nut for the show on Broadway?

Anyone know if the Lyceum Box office is open yet? I'll be it the city this week and would love to save a few bucks.
TIA

On Telecharge it looks like the box office opens June 5

They open June 5. If you look under "Venue & Access" on the show's Telecharge page, it has the box office info.

Thank you, everyone. (Esp to Taffy for pointing out where to find it!)
I'll be back in the city right after the Tonys, so maybe I'll wait until then.

I can't remember another Broadway schedule like this:
- No matinees
- performances at 5pm and 8:30pm on Thursdays & Saturdays
- dark Sundays
- 7:30pm all other nights
Wonder how those 5pm Thursdays will do in the summertime... Really only works for tourists/vacationers, people who don't work, and people who work irregular schedules, which aren't usually the demographics for a new play.
It will allow some people to do a 3-show day (2pm, 5pm, 8pm), but those avid theatergoers don't fill the house.

The Thursday matinees that Great Gatsby has been doing are selling very well, it’s one of their best sold performances.

American Utopia also had a 2 show Saturday that was not the norm. I think it was 5 & 9? or 5:30 & 9:30?

Not sure where you’re seeing this, because no, they really are not “selling very well”.

I looked at the very same chart on Telecharge and they are nowhere close to being sold out!

Yup it was 5pm and 9pm on Saturdays back in 2022 at the St James Theater. From what I remember it was a 6 show week from Wed-Sun with 2 shows on Saturdays.
As for Oh Mary, it is interesting why they're opting not to have matinees as it excludes a certain market. At Lucille Lortel, they had 2 performances on Sundays set at 2pm and 5:30pm and obviously it worked well but at the same time, that theater is 1/3 the size of the Lyceum.

This will work wonderfully for the 9 to 5/ 8 to 4 office crowd (how is that an irregular schedule?). It's always easier to leave the office earlier so you can attend a 5pm show than to make it to a 2pm matinee or stay awake till 8pm for an evening show. I'm seeing this only because of this 5pm Thursday showing. I wish there were more of these, especially for shorter, one act plays.
