This is kinda gonna be like the EVITA national tour thread. If anyone knows anything about casting that would be great and if not, who do you think should play Guy and Girl.
I don't know anything for a fact. But my partner asked me to get tickets for us for the tour. He said they are casting the tour with the original Broadway leads. I have no idea where he got this info. I'll ask him tonight.

Yeah...I don't think so. Kazee almost ruined his voice doing the show, so he definitely won't be back to do the tour, and Cristin is moving on to other things (a presumably large role on the next season of How I Met Your Mother, for starters).
My guess is that it is going to be the understudies, Ben Hope and Laura Dreyfuss, that had that awkward announcement as the replacements then went back to being understudies once they got the new leads.

Cristin Milioti is going to be a series regular on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and Steve Kazee has pretty much said that for vocal reasons he wouldn't go back in the show. So I'm 99% sure it won't be the original leads.
I thought Ana Vargas took the role of "Girl" after Derek Wills hooked her up with the audition? :)

There's no way that could possibly happen. The only reason Steve isn't still with the Broadway cast now is because of the damage the show did to his voice (he was going to extend until September) and as the others have said Cristin is going to be a regular on the final season of How I Met Your Mother. I wouldn't be too surprised if Ben Hope and Laura Dreyfuss did the tour.

I don't think so.
I believe I read somewhere that Steve Kazee's voice was pretty shot from doing the show every day and Cristin is going to be a series regular on "How I Met Your Mother" this season.
Don't quote me though.
Yeah, I asked my partner where he got that info. He said, "Yeah, I know it's not them. I just thought I heard that. But I don't remember where.' Helpful? Not.
I've heard a rumor that Declan Bennett from the West End production will be doing the US tour.
Drat-I was hoping they'd bring Declan Bennett and his co-star Zrinka Cvitešic to replace the two leads whose contracts are likely up soon (I thought Arthur Darville was in Dr. Who still). I heard terrific things about Bennett and Cvitešic in London and would love to see them here.

I actually have a radical idea...wouldn't it be interesting if they could get Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova to play their movie roles on stage, either for (part of) the tour or for a guest appearance on Broadway.
Zrinka Cvitešic is thrilling as Girl. Her rendition of 'The Hill' is so hauntingly beautiful. I saw the show on it's pre London tryout in Dublin so I understand his performance would have changed but I thought Declan was just fine.

Stuart Ward, the London Guy standby, will be playing Guy on the USA tour.

Both Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti have moved to LA for other work. I am not sure who will be playing Girl but I'm so excited about Stuart Ward as Guy, he was magical playing it in London.

Quite frankly, I'm more worried about what happens when they throw this show in 2000 seat tour auditoriums than who's in the cast. I'm just afraid no one is gonna be able to do it justice in those kinds of venues...
Complete casting has been announced. Nice cast they have for the tour.
ONCE Tour cast announced
The tour began in Providence this week. I saw it last night. The Providence Performing Arts Center holds about 3200. And it was pretty, if not completely full. The show was amazing. No issues and everything ran smoothly. The cast was great, if not quite as amazing as the original BWay leads, they were only marginally less so.
As far as grumpy's question on how well it would play to larger houses, the entire audience, leaped to their feet the moment the show ended and remained there, hooting and whistling throughout the curtain call.

Thanx artscallion, that's comforting to know. I was really worried about losing the intimacy and therefore the connection with the audience that this show relies on more than most. Really appreciate you addressing that for me!
did they still do the pre-show and invite people on stage to buy drinks?? I wondered if that was being kept on the tour considering the size of some of the houses.
They did. They had a techie at the stairs up to either side of the stage controlling how many people could be up there at one time (about 30 I'd guess) Whenever someone left the stage, they'd let someone else come up. Sold beer only. about 15 minutes before start time, the supporting cast joined them and played a few songs.
They also had audience up at intermission for a much briefer time (maybe 5 minutes) There wasn't a huge line waiting to get onstage at either point. So it seemed to work out just right.
4 Star review from the Chicago Tribune: Angels, muses and fathers deliver in lovely 'Once'

The cast for the non-equity tour of ONCE has been announced on their website. Interesting that they've changed the Bank Manager & Emcee to females, yet both parts are u/s by men. The tour runs Jan. 12 - May 29.
I have a ticket for this in April. Does anyone know of any major changes from the Broadway production or previous tour, besides the gender change noted above? I caught the first tour and absolutely fell in love with the show and I'm so excited to see it again.
Everyone around me who are season ticket holders compared every show after Once to it. We all thought it was so boring. The music is nice.
nobody knows yet. the non-equity tour doesn't open until Jan. 12.
