Wow, another worthless opinion nobody asked for. The play is sold out becausepeople were willing to paythe price.

Another hissy fit over someone doing their job. Helen Shaw is one of the best critics working today. Plenty of us ask for her opinion.

Yeah, the polite racists not being able to handle a brilliant Actor of Color being successful (even questioning how HE feels about his own career) has been wild to read. But, laughing all the way to the bank must be extra delicious for him. Congratulations, Mr Washington.
Yeah, score one for the dismantling of white supremacy, tickets costing $700 for a production starring two A-list celebrities.

Glengarry has tickets on sale for $724. Good Night and Good Luck has $799 tickets. Yet, not one racist from the NY Post complained about that nor has anyone on here. Weird. Oh, and people being so uncomfortable they try sarcasm and bitchiness is always so telling 😄

All the articles in this thread that mention the price are reviews. There have been no reviews commenting on the ticket prices of Glengarry or Good Night because there have been no reviews, period. Neither show has opened yet. If you want to scream racism about other shows' reviews not mentioning the ticket prices, you will need to wait until there are actual reviews that don't mention ticket prices to complain about.
As for articles, several other outlets did jump on the bandwagon and discuss other shows' prices.

"“Othello,” with an average ticket price last week of $338.83, is the most expensive show on Broadway right now, but it’s not the only costly ticket. A stage adaptation of “Good Night, and Good Luck” starring George Clooney had an average ticket price of $303.75 last week, and a revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” featuring Bill Burr, Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk had an average price of $207.40."

"When it comes to baseline prices that theaters are charging, it’s perhaps expected that Othello co-stars Washington and Gyllenhaal come with the highest price tag: $921 for a premium seat. Next in line, Clooney is a downright bargain in comparison, at $799 for Good Night, and Good Luck. Culkin is right up there, though, with Glengarry Gary Ross at $724.50. (That production’s star value is bolstered by Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr also starring.)"

That is blatantly untrue. Ticket prices are a constant complaint on this forum and all of these productions have been included in them.

I agree we should stop writing about how ridiculously expensive a ticket it is and remain focused on how inept the production is. There's nothing we can do about decisions made by stars/agents/producers.

But it wouldn't fit the narrative they are trying to create.

I was at today's matinee. First, since price has been a discussion, full disclosure: I paid 175 for the last row of the mezz when tickets first went on sale.
It's definitely a Kenny Leon show, for better or worse. The loud, anachronistic music cues are plentiful- the one used when setting up Desdemona's bedchamber reminded me of the R&B slow jams in The Room's sex scenes lol. The climactic Cassio/Roderigo scene being in total darkness also robs it of some of its power.
Performance-wise, Denzel knew his lines and didn't mumble (he was terrific in the final scene). But Iago is a much better role, and Jake acts circles around him for much of the play.
Re the supporting cast, I echo the praise for Burnap/Sprawl and was meh on Osborne. I also thought Daniel Pearce made a meal of his brief stage time as Brabantio.

MezzA101 posted it at #48. It's the review that set off gibsons2 and Sutton and launched the conversation above.
