Wow, another worthless opinion nobody asked for. The play is sold out becausepeople were willing to paythe price.

Another hissy fit over someone doing their job. Helen Shaw is one of the best critics working today. Plenty of us ask for her opinion.

Yeah, the polite racists not being able to handle a brilliant Actor of Color being successful (even questioning how HE feels about his own career) has been wild to read. But, laughing all the way to the bank must be extra delicious for him. Congratulations, Mr Washington.

Yeah, score one for the dismantling of white supremacy, tickets costing $700 for a production starring two A-list celebrities.

Glengarry has tickets on sale for $724. Good Night and Good Luck has $799 tickets. Yet, not one racist from the NY Post complained about that nor has anyone on here. Weird. Oh, and people being so uncomfortable they try sarcasm and bitchiness is always so telling 😄

All the articles in this thread that mention the price are reviews. There have been no reviews commenting on the ticket prices of Glengarry or Good Night because there have been no reviews, period. Neither show has opened yet. If you want to scream racism about other shows' reviews not mentioning the ticket prices, you will need to wait until there are actual reviews that don't mention ticket prices to complain about.
As for articles, several other outlets did jump on the bandwagon and discuss other shows' prices.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/23/briefing/broadway-ticket-prices.html
"“Othello,” with an average ticket price last week of $338.83, is the most expensive show on Broadway right now, but it’s not the only costly ticket. A stage adaptation of “Good Night, and Good Luck” starring George Clooney had an average ticket price of $303.75 last week, and a revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” featuring Bill Burr, Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk had an average price of $207.40."
https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/crazy-broadway-ticket-prices-does-clooney-or-denzel-charge-the-most/
"When it comes to baseline prices that theaters are charging, it’s perhaps expected that Othello co-stars Washington and Gyllenhaal come with the highest price tag: $921 for a premium seat. Next in line, Clooney is a downright bargain in comparison, at $799 for Good Night, and Good Luck. Culkin is right up there, though, with Glengarry Gary Ross at $724.50. (That production’s star value is bolstered by Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr also starring.)"

That is blatantly untrue. Ticket prices are a constant complaint on this forum and all of these productions have been included in them.

I agree we should stop writing about how ridiculously expensive a ticket it is and remain focused on how inept the production is. There's nothing we can do about decisions made by stars/agents/producers.

I was at today's matinee. First, since price has been a discussion, full disclosure: I paid 175 for the last row of the mezz when tickets first went on sale.
It's definitely a Kenny Leon show, for better or worse. The loud, anachronistic music cues are plentiful- the one used when setting up Desdemona's bedchamber reminded me of the R&B slow jams in The Room's sex scenes lol. The climactic Cassio/Roderigo scene being in total darkness also robs it of some of its power.
Performance-wise, Denzel knew his lines and didn't mumble (he was terrific in the final scene). But Iago is a much better role, and Jake acts circles around him for much of the play.
Re the supporting cast, I echo the praise for Burnap/Sprawl and was meh on Osborne. I also thought Daniel Pearce made a meal of his brief stage time as Brabantio.

this made me laugh out loud. people will be enraged and clutch their pearls over ANYTHING.
meanwhile wasnt someone telling me a few months ago that Denzel is a MAGA Republican, and its *sexist* to criticize Scherzinger's public flirtations with antivax monsters and bigots? Now its racist to note that these greedy mofos are charging a thousand bucks to see Othello? I cant keep up.

Othello and Iago, a Marriage Made in Both Heaven and Hell
Because Shakespeare gave his hero and antihero equal weight, the contest between the actors playing them has never been that easy to call.

The journalist the article is written about also, by their own admission, took eight days to respond to the offer of free tickets and was then shocked to find that none were left. I think taking that long to respond is ridiculous and have no sympathy.

Reading comprehension really isn't your thing, is it? The journalist referred to in the title is Oleksinski from the Post, not anyone at Buzzfeed.

Shaw's was a review, not a article, and in her review of Good Night and Good Luck, she does comment on the price (of a show she appreciated much more despite that price).
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2025/04/14/glengarry-glen-ross-good-night-and-good-luck-theatre-review-broadway
"It’s been a season when the relative inaccessibility of tickets has been very much on my mind. The cost of a pair to “Good Night, and Good Luck” most likely means that the majority of folks watching it are executives, media types, or well-heeled business owners, some of whom might be thinking about if and when courage will be required. These, probably, are the very folks Clooney is trying to reach."

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. I had read the reviews so knew there were parts that people didn’t enjoy. That said I thought the whole show got better as it went. JG is definitely the strongest part of the show but Denzel is such a legend it was a pleasure to see him on stage. I think he is getting more comfortable in the role based on some of the early reviews I read. Molly Osborne was very good although I had a tough time believing their marriage given their very obvious large age gap.
I would definitely recommend the show and I actually appreciated the Yondr pouches it was nice not hearing phones throughout the show.
the stage door wasn’t too bad. JG came out and signed and was very nice and Denzel waved and stopped as he got in his car but didn’t sign. Also thought it was interesting they didn’t do anything for Broadway Cares as the other shows I’ve seen this week did.

I find his response to be completely unsatisfactory. The only $45 tickets are a few lottery seats. Other than that, it’s astronomical. If he really is doing it for the love of theater, he should want audiences to be diverse and offer affordable prices that will encourage that.
On Clooney’s Actors on Actors, he remembered going to matinees when he was younger because they were cheap, and he didn’t have money. He said matinees have “old people or poor people.” Horrible wording and neither can see his matinees with those prices too. These “movie stars” who don’t want to be called “movie stars” should work on making their productions accessible.

So I shouldn’t be surprised I guess, but went in with pretty low expectations for this after all the so so to negative reviews on here and elsewhere. But I thought this was great. Was not a fan of the modern setting or the minimalist set, but the show was great. Denzel was clearly enjoying himself and in full command, none of the timidity or unsureness Id seen people mention. And Gyllenhaal was fantastic as expected. Oh also Kamala Harris was there
