Am finally going to see Oklahoma on Wednesday evening and Im terrified of certain people being absent

Just stop with the dramaaaaaaa. It's ridiculous. You are paying for the show. That's it. That is all you get.

Anyway, when did all of this absenteeism become so acceptable? In the golden days of Broadway it was almost unheard of. People were workhorses back then.

When people started standing up for themselves and taking care of their mental, emotional and physical health perhaps? This isn't the golden age of Broadway, actors are human beings, and they perform when they are able. End of story.

It wouldn't be a thread without someone talking about the lack of work ethic of "this younger generation" and that Ethel Merman never missed a performance and still went on in shows she had committed to even after she passed away.

You advertise someone as a cast member--what do you know, you'll find people disappointed when the cast member doesn't show up. As I said, illness or vacation aren't the same things as skipping erratically. Asking why that's going on isn't crime, and deserves a better response than "because they are human and Ethel Merman is dead."

Please give an example of the "sweeping ridiculous generalizations" you're referring to, as I see none. I think the point of my post among others are more lost on you than vice versa.

Bravo, Uncle Charlie. This entire thread is somewhat ridiculous if you ask me. Stroker calls out a bunch. No idea why. Thats between her and her employer-and most professionals in NYC have months' worth of vacation, personal days, sick days-- and have two days off every week minimum. So this haughty attitude *demanding* attendance is just plain gross.

And totally bizarre that the Oklahoma! cast is being tagged with this. Even if we are going to point fingers at Stroker and apparently Damon, theres a whole company there and as far as I know the rest of them have been performing this wonderfully for months. (Both times I saw the show, everyone was in.) Just plain silly.

I wasn't going to respond any further cause I do think you are someone who likes to stir stuff up just to entertain yourself but there you go. I thought my 2 earlier comments made it screamingly clear what I was referring to but apparently not enough for you. No, because ofone 32 year old actor apparently missing a few performances, the entire "younger generation" does not think it's alright to miss performance after performance nor does anyone think it is acceptable. As I said, a sweeping and ridiculous generalization about an entire generation of actors based on one person.Plenty of younger performers have great attendance records and older performers have had unscheduled absences.

How about you man up and provide some specific data on her attendance record. Only defamed to a mind like yours. In fact, regularly missing performances on an erratic basis does suggest unprofessionalism. This is neither sweeping nor a generalization. Nor does it actually attack her, or anyone, as it simply says this is how it looks, not what it going on. And it's a fairly good question to ask when absenteeism became acceptable. Indeed, your whole argument is the frequent absenteeism is acceptable, so that's no sweeping generalization, it's a specific question directed at people such as yourself who defend it and launch screeds against anyone who questions paying top dollar for a show and then not getting the cast advertised.

I get that in your mind anyone disagreeing with you is a troll (because doesn't the rest of the world exist to merely to validate you?) but that isn't reality.

The idea that people are so offended on the part of actors that no one better dare question while they are absent is just internet craziness. That's being way too obsessional. It's perfectly acceptable to ask why actors are repeatedly absent from shows, especially if they are advertised as appearing in the show when you bought your ticket, and to see that as unprofessional. They signed a contract. They have an obligation.

The hostility some around here have to alternate viewpoints, and the need to smear anyone voicing them. This is low, even by anonymous internet standards.

A professional performer is a one person business. They own and sell a commodity-themselves. An audition is their 'shop window' . If they are 'sold' then a contract of sale with CONDITIONS are agreed upon between buyer and seller.

What goes into that contract is private.

If the merchandise proves to be faulty then the sale is null and void.

A performer protects their own property but if being 'terrified' that your person might be off the night you want to go see them, how about making the SHOW the reason for buying a ticket, the rest an unexpected bonus.
