Attended the final dress tonight.
Damn. What an incredible show.
I didn't catch it at NYTW, and I've never seen the movie. In fact, it's hard to believe there even is an movie... this feels so right in the theatre. I'm sure people will wonder if intimacy has been lost moving into a larger house.. I can't say. The work I saw was beautiful and indeed intimate, without feeling overwhelmed by the house.
The direction is tight and there are so many small, wonderful, and inventive touches that are more dazzling than any set piece. The ensemble is outstanding all-around. I think Steve Kazee may have gotten everyone to fall in love with him.
It's hard to imagine another new musical opening this season that can be better. This is the one to beat.
I'm not sure it will find an audience on Broadway... one can hope. It's something people should see.
Thanks! I am very much looking foward to seeing this show on March 8.
I can't wait to see it March 24th. I rarely buy tickets so far in advance but I was so excited and wanted to grab them. I too missed at NYTW and have not seen the movie. I'm planning to know as little as possible when I go in (that is if I can somehow avoid the temptation of reading everything about previews and all the reviews.)

So glad to hear that it feels intimate in the much larger house. I loved the show at NYTW and that was one of my big worries. Can't wait til I get to see it again. I really hope it finds an audience.
That's so great to hear! I haven't seen the movie and I missed it at NYTW, but I'm enamored with the score. I'm seeing the show on March 11th, so your review is very reassuring.

Glad to hear positive things about this show. I will be seeing it March 30.
In the transfer, are they keeping the same conceit with the single pub stage, and allowing audience members up to get drinks during the pre-show?
Still surprised...pleasently... that this is premiering in the US. Really hope it finds it's audience. I can't wait to see it in April!

Yup.
Actually paid full price for 2 tickets for 3/26....I figured, it's such a great show, let's splurge and sit in the 7th row center, instead of off to the side. Can not wait to hear the intensity of the music again.

And yet, we probably won't get the hysterical rants about how this indicates the complete and total annihilation of Broadway, musical theatre and stoops to the lowest common denominator of the most uncivilized and savage dregs of society.
Not unless they bring Julie Taymor in for fixes during previews
Looking forward to seeing this during my upcoming trip in May.
Can't seem to find much in the center (Row M) but did see left and right on the aisle: Row A 1-3 and Row A 2-4.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Who's going tonight?
I know from when I bought my tickets at the box office 3 weeks ago, that the discount is not valid on center orchestra seats as said by the box office manager.
I've honestly never wanted a musical to succeed as much as this one. I hope that it's a HUGE smash hit. It's a touching story with incredible music, and it's one of the most heartfelt theatrical experiences that you'll ever have. I'm gutted that I can't be there the first night of previews on Broadway like I was there the first night of previews at the NYTW, but I wish them the best. I knew that night that the show would come to Broadway, and I know tonight that it's going to be a hit.
I didn't love the film but I did LIKE it. I ADORED the show at NYTW. I actually had to remind myself to breathe. I was simply mesmorized by every iota. I couldn't point to one single thing I wanted done differently -- and there are not too many shows that I can say that about.
I will also be seeing this 3/30 and simply cannot wait. I could see this being something I could get obsessed over.
Cannot wait to get the recording!

tonight's show was great!
never saw such a positive reaction on a first preview.
Sat in last row and any questions about intimacy being lost can be ignored.
I can't wait to see it again!
Can't wait to hear more!
Anyone worried that this would lose charm in the transfer can put their fears to rest. As I've posted here before, I worshiped the off-Broadway production and tonight just reinforced why I think this is one of the best shows playing in New York.
This cast is so damn talented there really isn't much to say. Rarely do you see a group depend so much on each other and graciously and lovingly support one another. Kazee and Milioti have gotten even better (if one can believe it). Every line reading is perfection. Milioti lures me in with her humor in act one and then rips my heart out in act two. It's a genius performance and she needs rave reviews from every critic.
Like Dramamama I can't find a single fault with this show. It's not that I turn off my critical thinking and just "sit back and enjoy" it. It's more that my critical reactions are all so positive while experiencing the show.
I want this show to succeed with all my heart. I love it A LOT and will continue to gush about it to everyone I know. If only we got something this good every time we stepped into a theater...
The show's been on my mind since I saw it last night. I saw it in a house that was mostly empty, with many glowing computer screens and photographers racing around the theatre snapping away, yet I was more invested than I've been at true public performances. It appeared to me that the other guests that were able to come felt largely the same way, given the reactions the show caused throughout the evening (such as during a particular scene in act two, which was already a beautiful moment anyway).
The show is full of beautiful, human moments. Even the peripheral characters seem actualized, as silly as some of them initially appear.
...if only they had recorded some of that wonderful pre-show music for the cast album!
They didn't record those pre-show songs for the cast album?! That was a mistake. They need to record a bonus disc of songs that aren't even in the show just because I want to hear them perform more material!
Also it should be noted the response was so crazy tonight we demanded an extra curtain call after the lights were brought up. No one was going to leave that theater until we expressed our love one last time.
