Outer Space Critics Circle nominations?

Daphne over Linda Edmond? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????
And Calhoun over Schaeffer??
And numerous nods for Bonnie and Spiderman?
This is really entertaining!

Actually kinda surprised there wasn't more 'Ghost' love...so interested to see what Drama Desks and Tonys have in store!
I'll take the wind and soar.

how does "Nice Work" get 9 nominations but nothing for best new musical??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Quite an interesting grab-bag of nominees...
I'm happy Melissa Van Der Schyff was recognized. Bought the cast album of B&C the other day and remembered her wonderful performance fondly. Will she get a Tony nod? Highly unlikely, but either way, I think she gave one of the most memorable performances this season for a Featured Actress in a Musical.

Cheers,
C.

The more and more I think about it, the more and more I realize how much of a reality it is that SPIDER-MAN could snag a Best Musical nomination at the Tonys. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if it was NICE WORK, ONCE, NEWSIES, and SPIDER-MAN. I do hope LEAP OF FAITH takes the last slot (it's no masterwork, but it's a hell of a lot better than GHOST and SPIDER-MAN), but I could totally see SPIDER-MAN slipping in there just for the hell of it.

Don't take these Awards seriously! They are the same people that gave Young Frankenstein the most nominations.

wickedrocks, I honestly think the only possible Tony nomination for SPIDER-MAN would go to Patrick Page. I know PLENTY of people will scream when they read this, but I predict that they will either close the Best Musical category with three shows (they've done it before), or the fourth slot will go to... LYSISTRATA JONES.

People laughed/scoffed at me when I predicted no nomination for Daniel Radcliffe last year, and so I suppose this is my out-on-a-limb prediction this year.

Do we have to go through this every year? I'm sure everyone's memory must be better than this.

These nominations have little weight on any other nominations or wins. As Mildred mentioned, does anyone remember Young Frankenstein sweeping at the Tonys? Neither do I.

These are almost as if the tourists had to vote for the nominees and winners. They're the April Fools of award season.

Looking back, they also nominated Tale of Two Cities and The Woman in White for Best Musical. There ya go!

If the OUTER CRITICS CIRCLE has no love for GHOST - NOBODY WILL!

So true, egghumor!

I also wouldn't be surprised if they only nominate 3 shows for best musical.

What are we expecting for Nice Work reviews? Mixed?

Nice Work will have strong reviews for its cast and design, and possibly for the choreography. I saw it 2 weeks ago, so things may have changed, but the book is excellent for a jukebox show. I imagine there will be a couple "why?" reviews (Why is this show here, we already had Crazy For You 15 years ago).

Outer Space Critics Circle nominations?

This is how I look at it. The Critics Awards are like the Golden Globes. Those who would most likely not going to get nominated for a Oscar/Academy Award are usually nominated for Golden Globes. Same goes here via Critics Award/Tonys. Some shows will be in both categories, but I always felt that those that get nominated for Critics Circle Awards have a very less chance in getting nominated for the Tonys. So that means the names that you did not SEE on the Critics Circle nomination list are high contenders to be nominated for a Tony. I always felt that it's the Theater Community's way to make everyone a winner no matter what. So at least every show at some point gets recognized with something. :)

It's just a totally different voting board. That's all.

RippedMan, I completely agree: It's great to see Death Takes a Holiday getting some love. The score was fabulous.
Congrats to Rebecca Luker for nabbing a featured actress in a musical nod for that. "Losing Roberto" is at the top of my itunes most played songs.

The Critics Awards are like the Golden Globes.

The Drama Desk are the Golden Globes. These are...nothing really.

I find it funny that, because they are the first awards to announce nominations, everyone gives them so much power.

Throughout the years they have proven to be a joke. But I guess posters have selective memory.

As much as I find awards intriguing, at the end of the day they're just marketing tools, to put more bums on seats.

Outer Space Critics Circle nominations?

I'm so happy that Steve Kazee got nominated that I don't even mind that Carrie and Spider-Man are nominated for best of anything.

But I'm sure Bernadette Peters will put on a brave face and congratulate Jan Maxell and Danny Burstein and Jane Houdyshell, like the trouper she is.

But...ouch, sweetie, ouch!

I just picture Edina getting slapped by Saffron.
