I saw the show tonight. I thought Max was incredible, you would have never known it was his first performance. His vocals were incredible and the moment to moment acting was so honest. Physically very different than Platt, almost the whole show hit a little differently. Something I feel you see with Platt is how YOUNG Leo was when all of this went down. With Max it was more about WHO Leo was and the morals/standards. I was choking up throughout the show. Michaela called him back on stage and shouted him out afterwards and the audience went wild. Everyone was rooting for him and he DELIVERED. I would say about 30 seconds of applause after "This is not over yet".
I knew Ben would be out but wanted to see the show when it was up on TDF. I didn't know anything about Max Chernin but damn he was spectacular. Micaela also blew the roof off with her singing and acting. I can't wait to see it again. I'm not sure if I can post a picture but I asked an male usher at intermission and said if course it's ok. This is when Micaela was giving praise to Max..oops nevermind. It says I need a URL.
Saw the show tonight for the first time since City Center, and it's considerably more of a stunner than it was last fall. Max Chernin was pitch-perfect as Leo, and it was clear that he knows the role in this particular production inside and out, and, beyond that, that he's been preparing for it for a very long time. I love Ben Platt, but it's very different to see the show with someone who isn't him. For Evan Hansen, I greatly preferred Ben, but, for Parade, I think the show benefits by having a relative unknown in the part. As far as the show goes, seeing it tonight confirmed what I already thought: that it's the best-sung and best-directed musical on Broadway right now, and it's not even close.

100% this. Max was incredible tonight and I hope he gets to go again.

I'm hearing if they WIN Best Revival they will extend through the end of the year! So maybe yes!?

Saw this Saturday night and truthfully was floored. Everything about this was excellent - from direction to lighting to orchestration. I liked this SO MUCH MORE than the Sweeney revival (and I didn’t dislike it at all). This felt authentic and from the best, whike Sweeney felt more like a chore of a star vehicle if that makes sense.
Ben Platt and Michael Arden are about to be on Morning Joe on MSNBC.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
I saw Parade and Sweeney Todd last Wednesday and THIS is the show I can’t stop thinking about. I had never seen or heard anything from Parade before and was absolutely stunned by the beautiful score and heartbreaking story. Micaela and Beth Kirkpatrick (who was on for Mrs. Phagan) were devastating to watch. Funny enough, I was sitting front row of the rear mezz and got super nervous after not being able to understand a single word the Old Soldier was saying. I now see others had the same issue and luckily, it was the actor - not the sound design! Additionally, I enjoyed Ben Platt but felt he was playing an adult Evan Hansen with the mannerisms he used (I now see others felt the same way too). Having now seen all of the musical revivals, I hope this wins the Tony!

If Platt is available/willing to do it it and the theatre is available, I don't see why they wouldn't extend past August 6. idk what the sales will look like post-Labor Day, but at minimum they could continue it another month.
I expect any announcement would coincide with the Tonys (and hopefully works out better for these producers than the return of SLAVE PLAY).

I keep listening to "This Is Not Over Yet" on repeat!! I love it so much!
I saw this one recently and found mesmerizing. The single set made of what looks like wood and the projections always reminding us that they were real people really got me thinking Arden's main point was the fact that while we do use musicals to escape, some horrors are with us to this day. This kind of hate in a community is present since ever and sometimes, we can't win.
Yet, the show is very optimistic, especially because their leads are vivid characters that we just have to root for. Both Plat and Diamond are great in their roles, with Micaela being the MVP of the show. I think Ben is very good, but still retains a lot of manneirisms that could stay away, but what a vibratto, and he clearly loves this role. Diamond is heartbreaking on stage and has a magnificent voice.
Grayson is rivelting in the judgement scenes, and Nolan is a presence to fear. Both deserved spots at the Tonys more than some nominees.
The book is actually great at determine everything, and the score is glorious, one for the ages.
I won't be mad if this gets the Tony glorys, and I think Arden is the best nominee in that bunch, and I hope he gets the award.

That's the number they are doing on the TONYS.
I thought the young soldier was terrible as well as we did not understand anything they were singing in the opening. I'm surprised this is still a problem.

Based on his roundtable conversation with other Tony nominees in the Hollywood Reporter, I think the answer - at least for Platt - is no. Platt said his last day is August 6 - ‘hard stop.’
Anything is possible, I suppose, but that answer sounded pretty definitive.
Could it extend and he be recast? Especially if he doesn't win the tony. Is Ben purely the only draw or could the show survive without him? Especially if the show itself wins awards
Before this week, I would have suggested Jeremy Jordan would replace Platt if they extend it, but he's going back to Little Shop, so that is obviously not happening. Are there any other big names that could fill in for Platt if this extends?

I truly think that Platt is the main draw for a lot of people for this revival but if we were to get a replacement I'd love to see Brandon Uranowitz (hopefully) coming off of his Tony win.
