PETA to protest Catherine Zeta-Jones outside of the Walter Kerr theater...

Maybe it's a practice protest? I mean after all in a couple of weeks the Ringing Bros Circus is going to be playing MSG and we all know they will be protesting that.

And the problem is, they'd have a legitimate gripe with the circus. What they do to those elephants is deplorable. However, no one takes PETA seriously, therefore no one takes the issue of the elephant abuse in the circus seriously.

Adam, there is a girl I went to college with who is VERY innocent and just goes with the crowed and has trouble making choice for herself. She is into animal rights and said that she wants to join PETA because she feel that they are "the best animal rights group." Both a friend and myself who were in the room told her that if she had to join an animal rights group that she should go with ASPCA over PETA because no one takes PETA seriously.

And, I agree that no one should. Frankly it is hard to know if PETA is right about the whole elephant issue in the circus due because of how they are known to approach things regarding animal rights. I was looking into them for a paper and I read a blog that was talking about how there is a video that they did that has them talk with people who were former Ringling Bros trainers who left etc. And, they commented that there is a chance that PETA just had its own member say that they used to work there as a way of making propaganda.

Point that I am trying to make is that due PETA's reputation and how they handle things it is hard to know what the truth is with regards to how elephants are treated in the circus.

Hell, I saw them get kicked out of Lincoln Center a couple of months back because they were trying to protest The Big Apple Circus because they use dogs.

I hope Peta does protest. As an animal lover, I see no reason these days to wear real fur; however, I do not agree with alot of there tactics such as throwing stuff on people.

I guess you have to take the good with the bad with them. I just watched a docomentary on them the other day where they went undercover on a chicken farm. While I disagree with them that we should all become vegitarians, I do agree that humane practices should be followed. The way these animals are treated, tortured and slaughtered is absolutely horrendous.

I saw the prelude to a Peta Paint throwing incident. Both the paint throwers and the woman wearing the fur coat all got out of the same van a few blocks from Bloomingdales. They separated and met in the middle of the block where "The victim" got red paint thrown on her coat.
It was staged and very badly acted. I hung around and watched as they all climbed back into he same van some time later. Granted this was a number of years ago, They may have started doing it for real, but I doubt it.

I don't think that they would actually throw red paint on some random woman walking down the street in a fur coat. I don't know for sure as far as the law is concerned. But, I would think that the owner of the coat would be able to sue PETA for however much the coat cost due to destruction of property.

I am convinced that PETA is now turning into an animal loving cult rather then one that cares about animal rights. Hell, I am even convinced that if they were allowed to get married to animals and sleep with them legally I am sure that they would. It's like that episode of South Park that mocks them where members of PETA are introducing the kids to their husbands and wives who are actually animals.

Shrug. If you have to find reasons to be anti-PETA so that you can ignore what they are about, and ignore the icky business of animals being killed for fur, food, and the hell of it, more power to you.

Here's a quote from the comments section of the very opinion piece you just posted.

PETA picks up animals slated for death by gas chamber or 22 rifle to put them down by the more humane method of lethal injection. (gas chamber: as in injected with a paralytic agent so that they suffocate while their organs seize up in a cinder block cell). The animals, according Daphna Nachminovitch of PETA (who talked to the shelter) said there was never any question about "finding them homes". Only a peaceful death. I happen to live in NC, I know they shoot and gas animals still here. The shelter I volunteer at puts fully a third to sleep. Thanks to hack jobs like this, the shelter in question has resumed painful gassing as opposed to letting more humane groups take them. I guess they were embarrassed about the "littering". Ms. Saunders, you & your husband's hatred for anyone who does jibe with your extreme right wing agenda is well known. Get your facts rather than just google the latest corporate propadanda from CCF (or do you two work for Rick Berman)?

I'm more amazed to find out that shelters shoot animals.

What do you think about that, Broadway Local?

Im not saying that either method is good. However, one would think that if PETA were the big animal lovers they made themselves out to be, then they would work on trying to find homes for them or rescue these animals that would have been killed otherwise rather then doing it themselves.

PETA has nooooo idea what's in store for them with the crazy musical queens.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali
