Wishing Wiley well. She was terrific when I saw her in Intimate Apparel at the Donmar Warehouse.
But obviously, we're going to be in incredible hands. It's pretty incredible how consistent Young's appearances on Broadway have become. And she's been amazing in every show.

"Should we expect Kara Young to receive a Best Featured Actress in a Play nomination for the fifth year in a row? Or even a third consecutive win?"
This was my very first thought. The nomination streak can now continue!

If only.

I guess I just assumed. She'd be great.

I’m still basking in the news. I was looking forward to Samira - I loved her in The Laramie Project and in Blues for an Alabama Sky on NT@Home.
However, this to me feels like when Gwen Verdon took a leave from Chicago and they brought in Liza Minnelli as a replacement.

Unlikely she would win in this role, but we should expect another nomination for Young!

It's a tough category this year with Metcalf in Salesman and Squibb/Nixon in Marjorie Prime (to name a few)

First preview extreme side Orch are now $99 ($114 with fees)

Just posting something I overheard at a show this past weekend - two people behind me were chatting before the show, and one of them mentioned they had been approached about investing in Proof. They told their companion that according to the documents they saw, the production needs to have an average ticket price of $187 for the entirety of the run in order to break even. There wasn't any mention of a built in extension, which I assume would maybe slightly reduce that average (probably not by much, given the Cheadle of it all). In any case, seems like there's no way this recoups, right? Not even DanRad pulled a number like that last week!

The star power in this feels comparable to DOG DAY. Meaning, a level or two below last season's GN&GL and GLENGARRY and OTHELLO. Doesn't mean it can't succeed, but it will probably need really good reviews to help sales take off.

And that's kind of the issue with these celebrity-driven limited runs. Unless you've got absolute god-tier celebrity casting (ie- Denzel and Gyllenhaal) that can command obscene ticket prices, the best most of these productions can hope for is to recoup and maybe win a Tony (and these productions seldom seem to win best production awards, which means producers don't even get their trophy). But they're not going to be actually profitable. At some point, investors are going to want more than to break even.

just a reminder that the BOOTH has standing room and likely will be selling these from first preview or after opening

In my experience, standing room doesn’t usually come into play until after a show is frozen because the space is usually used by creatives. Based on a cursory glance of the seating maps right now, they aren’t even close to selling out, which puts SRO spots out of reach for those looking for a bargain.

Yeah, I stood in the standing room area for a performance of the roommate when I felt uncomfortable in my rush seat. They were not selling the standing area, they dont sell it unless the show is fully selling out. And with proof's pricing, they are nowhere near that point. If the producers were smart they would discount some of the previews like John Proctor, it needs buzz if they are wanting to sell $349 seats

Would it be strange to think that prices might come down because Kara replaced Samira? Not because of name recognition, per se, but the fact that they also now don’t have to pay to help Samira relocate to NYC for a few months.
That being said, I would sooner put a higher price tag on Kara because she has a theatre pedigree most could ever dream of and, as evidenced by the reaction here, she seems like the bigger get

They are starting to dynamically price this cheaper. I just grabbed a second row center aisle for 152
