Bless Scott Rudin for this. Honeymoon doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Mormon. For one, Mormon can sell tickets.

So why did Honeymoon back down in the first place?
What would Rudin have done? He could have started some "campaign" against them but isn't any press good press?
I would think a vocal campaign by Rudin against the show would only get more people intrigued to see it.
If that's what the Time Out New York critic actually said, I don't see why Honeymoon backed down.
Edited to add: And it is actually what David Cote said in his review:
In terms of sheer bubbly fun, Honeymoon ranks up there with some of my favorite new musical comedies on the job—The Full Monty, Hairspray or In the Heights—and recent ones—The Book of Mormon and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Broadway may be a crapshoot, but Honeymoon hits the jackpot.—David Cote

I had the misfortune of sitting two seats down from Mr. Rudin at an acclaimed off-Broadway show (Passion at CSC). He and his young friend talked during the show, mocking it, muttering. I didn't care who he is, I glared at him. The woman in front of him turned around and also gave him a "cut it out" look. He and his friend unceremoniously got up and noisily walked out 30 minutes before the show ended. I lost all respect for him at that point. Only knowing him from the great movies and shows he produces I thought he was a cool guy. Now I read more and more about him and it sounds like he has forgotten that he isn't the only Important person in the world doing Important things. That he owes others respect.
"I loved it! It was much better than CATS! I'm going to see it again and again!"
You know that he produced the original Passion, yes?

That's another reason I found his behavior at the show obnoxious and unprofessional. I do wonder if he is still upset about that 2001 fallout over Gold, which became Bounce and then Road Show. He was saying snide things about the show, not the actual production. And I wonder if his tickets were comp tickets. Anyway, I don't care who he is, he and his fidgety friend need to learn how to behave in a theatre.

Well....I'm not gonna boycott anything with his name on it but he is most definitely a complete ****-waffle.
Totally agree with macnyc. Though I didn't care for Honeymoon in Vegas, and I do think Book of Mormon is far superior, I think they should have the right to quote the critics. It's not like they just stated it as if their advertising team decided to make the bold claim that it ranks with BoM. They were quoting a critic like every show does. Maybe Rudin should sue Cote instead.
Ok. ****-waffle. What a great phrase! I've got to find a way to use that one in conversation. Hmm. I originally thought it was a**-waffle. But I see there are four asterisks rather than three which I suppose makes it f***-waffle. Which I don't like as well. Now what do I do? Need some clarification here. Maybe I'll just use a**-waffle whether it is right or not.
