From a reliable source...
I think her age would be a factor.
Another question would be ALW feelings for her after she sued him.
To be quite honest, I could still see LuPone doing it. Sure, she is FAR to old for the role. But now, especially in forthcoming production, Elena is going to be constantly compared to LuPone. I could very much see it being billed similar to Gypsy. LUPONE EVITA. It would be a star show....and it would sell like HOT CAKES: Tony winning reprising her role. No question about it. As far as vocal chops...Patti could still do it.
I would love it.
Well, Eva died when she was 33, so ... no.
uh.......no....
so did Jesus...but that hasn't stopped Ted Neeley who is now twice that age. LOL
...I agree she is too old though, but just pointing out how little producers care for age appropriate casting if it is a marketable gimmick.
edited to ad..I am pretty sure Hell will freeze over though before Patti and Andrew ever work together again.

This thread is nothing more than someone trying to stir the pot.
Since when are the voices in someone's head considered "a reliable source"?
Oh come now! That was funny!
hahaha this is really funny
Good one. I had to double check my calendar, thought today was April Fools Day.
Pffft
And Julie Andrew is miffed because they haven't offered her Eliza for the new film of "My Fair Lady." Dissed TWICE for the same part.
Honestly. What a load of horse hockey.

Wouldn't such a performance require an OK from Sir Andrew?
I know it's been cold lately, but did Hell freeze over and I missed it?
Glad that I made some laugh! =)

Well, didn't Patti get pissed that she wasn't even approached about the film, and THEN was asked to play Madonna's mother?

I would have loved to be there when she got THAT call.
PiraguaGuy2: I believe she refused to do a screen test, and later when Alan Parker came on board he offered her the part of Eva's mother. Patti later mocked this offer in an interview I saw a couples years ago.
Well I am sure we will hear all about this in her forthcoming book.
This is a great thread.....
but I bet she could do it still....
Patti couldn't do it. Eva Peron had a waist. Sorry, someone had to say it.

Word on the street is that Jennifer Holliday is mad because they didn't consider her either. Can't you imagine her version: Don't crry-ay-ay for mah-ee, huh, huh, Argen-tee-ee-ee-nuhhhhhhhhhhhh.
"I would have loved to be there when she got THAT call."
The call I would have wanted to hear was the supposed call that asked Patti to take over for Glenn Close in Sunset Blvd.
The producers approached Whitney Houston but she wanted to sing Evita and Che's songs.
Will this new production have the songs translated into Spanish by LMM?
Can I just say that I am interested in if she, or anyone for that matter, could be considered Best Actress in a Musical even though she played the role before. Is there a rule about this?

These days there's no rhyme or reason to what the Tony committee does. She would have a good argument because they allowed Stephen Spinella to be nominated twice for the same character. But I think they justified that by saying that Angels in America was two different plays and that the first time he was nominated for "Featured" and the second time for "Lead". So who knows which way the wind will blow.
