Damn you CBS for taking James Corden and killing prospects for him in the role.
Are Jesse Martin and John Barrowman too old (besides unavailable)?
Is Norton Leo Butz still only willing to do "family" shows?

I agree re Corden and with Butz. I also think Anthony Anderson could be good if he can carry a tune. When Charlie closes, Christian Borle would also be a possibility.
Don't get suggestions for James, Barrowman, or Green. Pseudolus is a clown.

I second Danny Burstein. He was the first name to leap to mind.

Where? On Broadway?
Because if that's the case, most of these names need to be discarded. No one is opening a commercial revival of this show with Bryan D'Arcy James or Danny Burstein in the lead, talented as they are.
Forum is a star vehicle.
Great thread. No, not Gad. James Corden, amazing, do it.

I'd vote Josh Gad. He has a slightly obnoxious side that I think is good for Pseudolys. James Corden would be good, but he's just so likeable. (I think Corden would be ideal for Bill Snibson in ME AND MY GIRL.)

Unless of course, it gets produced by a not-for-profit theatre company.
The songs are not belters. You don't have to sing like Brian D'Arcy James to make a good lead, Corden is just the amount of little **** that will do fine.
If Jack Black ever wants to come to Broadway, this would be a great vehicle

Zero Mostel created the role.
And Nathan Lane was an obvious "Mostel-like" creature.
I cant think of anyone around now that really fits the bill -- maybe Gad is closest, and if Burstein could channel Zero in Fiddler, maybe he could do it in Forum. But he might really not want to get into that "type".
If you want to gender bend, I'd suggest Whoopi Goldberg is closest to the mark.

I can't tell if you know this already or not, but Goldberg played the role in the last revival, as Nathan Lane's replacement.

Or how about Melissa Mcarthy for her broadway debut?

I would actually love to see CSC do this show. I think the show would work beautifully in more intimate setting.
