Agreed froggy. But there is always more to the story.
I have gotten an outpouring of PMs giving me props and saying they are happy someone finally has spoken up. Many people feel the same way, and they are frightened of this woman.
Now that is just mean. If she loves the show, then she loves the show. I think it is okay for someone to be moved by the show. It isn't your money. It is hers. You are exploiting her and embarrassing her for tons of posters to read about. Saying that you are scared of her? That is immature and disgusting. I'm 15 and I have to tell people that are probably older than me to treat others with respect? Something is wrong with the world then.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
I am fine with people loving the show. I love shows. I love that people spend lots of money on shows. It is a wonderful thing.
We are talking about a complicated and much different situation. She is a disturbance to others during the show. That is what bothers me. Also at the stage door and rush line, but that is another matter. She distracts from the PERFORMANCES.
The fact that you are 15 says a lot. This woman has a little gaggle of people that in HIGH SCHOOL that worship her. Keep in mind, she is almost 40 years old. Updated On: 7/22/09 at 05:35 PM
Isn't this supposed to be the next to normal LOVE THREAD? This is totally inappropriate, back the hell off. Personally attacking people is beyond rude, I don't care what the circumstances are or what "more to the story" there is.
In other news, and back to the actual topic of this thread, the n2n facebook page just posted that they're no longer performing at Broadway in Bryant Park tomorrow and have rescheduled for August 6th.
Maybe she'll be so embarrassed she stops. Though if you're strange enough to behave like that perhaps not.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I don't think she is going to stop purposely being moved by the show just to please some stupid losers on a random thread that she doesn't even know personally.

Hello, have you actually been following the thread?
She should be doing it to please the cast and other audience members in general that apparently have been complaining.
And the issue as been discussed isn't that she is being 'moved', it's that she appears to be an attention whore.

Who is it? & what is she doing exactly? just crying b/c you've been affected by a show is normal Theater affects people in different ways and everyone has their own way of dealing with it/reacting
No it wouldn't have. People are not ATTACKING her, just bringing up her supposed behavior and criticizing it.
TKing....read the thread and you can catch up.
Guys, the POINT that is being made is that an audience member is disruptive to both the audience AND the cast with her histrionics on being affected by the show. THAT is wrong. No one is saying she shouldn't see the show. No one is telling her NOT to be moved. They are trying to point out that she is affecting the enjoyment of the show and the performers concentration.
Is there a better way to do it? Probably not. People like this (and note I have no direct experience with this individual person) do not see that they are being disruptive. Sometimes the hit you over the head with the info is the only way to get the message across.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Libby -- you will barely recognized it! I LIKED it at 2nd Stage...now it's something I can't get enough of.

Thanks dramamama (there are a lot of "ma" syllables in your name!)...this makes me even more excited to see it in a few weeks!
I typically don't see shows numerous times, but I am curious to see how it's changed since I saw it last. I also really want to come see it again to see Aaron Tveit as Gabe sometime in September.
Anyway...I'm bringing my mom with me...I hope she likes it. I think it's a little "different" for her. I think she'd used to your more traditional musical, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
I wanna take my mom to see it. I think she'd like it, as well as cry her eyes out.

Ugh I'm dyingggg to see it. I'm going to try to get rush tickets the Monday after I come back from vacation, hopefully 6 AM will be early enough. I've tried to be really careful about reading spoilers and have only listened to a handful of songs, but inadvertently, I know a bunch of what happens. Still, I'm ridiculously excited to check it out.
Because I look different you think I'm subversive.
I recently got tickets to see it again, and this time I'm taking a friend. I'm really excited to see what she thinks, and to also just experience the show for a second time.
My sister also told me that she wants me to take her to the show, but she wants to see Aaron, so I won't be able to take her until January!
I rushed the show on the 12th, and got a box seat. After hearing rave reviews, I was very excited to be seeing it, and I was not disappointed at all. The cast was on fire, their energy radiated into the audience and the audience's reactions were great, especially when major plot lines were revealed. I have never been so moved by a show before. I'm hoping to make another trip to see it before the summer ends, but I'll be trying for a rear mezzanine seat, as the box seat I was in wasn't exactly the best seat in the house.
Libby--Yeah, Aaron is coming back in September, but my sister leaves for Spain for four months the week he comes back. So I won't be able to take her to see him until January (I'm praying that the show is still around!). I hope you get to go back and see him sooner than that, though!
You scared me for a minute there BroadWayGuy...yes I will most definitely be going to see it again with Aaron. The sooner the better...he's returning around the 7th or 8th correct?
Although I'm pleased that people are going to next to normal many times, thus helping ensure a long run, i think that going thirty something times is way too much... i don't think i could ever afford that
