A wonderful production... wish I had gotten to see it a second time. I wish a lot of people had gotten to see it a first time.

Apparently not enough...so sorry to see it go way too soon.
Such a great production--- such a shame !!!!!! (
I wonder what this means for Christiane Noll's Tony chances. I thought she was one of the frontrunners...but now...
^ This may hurt Noll's chances of even being nominated now. Her category has
Kate Baldwin
Barbara Cook
Montego Glover
Kristin Chenoweth
Bebe Neuwirth
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Vanessa Williams (if she's not bumped down to featured)
I'd say Bobby Steggert has the greatest chance of a nomination now.

We'll just have to wait and see. I'm sad that this is closing, and so soon, and wonder if there's more to come. I think that it will be nominated for Best Revival, and some other things will be at least nominated, but as for winning, it's anyone's guess. We'll have to wait.
Ljay, you are right, it seems like you could easily fill the category with Catherine Z. Jones, Barbara Cook, Kristin Chenoweth, Bebe Neuwirth, and Kate Baldwin or Vanessa Williams, depending on what they do with her.

Great talent but I'm not surprised.
This is sad news. I was lucky enough to see it a month ago. Closing way too soon!
I just bought tickets yesterday for tomorrow, and to think I was going to buy tickets for January 5!
This is extremely sad.
My stomach dropped. What a shame.
Honestly, the best theatrical experience I've had in the theatre in a VERY long time. One of the most hardworking, dedicated, and talented casts on the boards right now. I am shocked and saddened.
I hope Christine Noll, Marcia Dodge, and the show get remembered come Tony time. They all deserve the best.
I just finalized a trip for the weekend this morning. I'll be there.
It was definitely worth the 9 times I saw it in DC and 4 times on Broadway.
Thanks Dottie, now I feel less embarrassed to say I saw it 7 times in DC.
While not surprising, it saddens me. I caught it for a second time on Saturday....I saw first hand the lack of audience...the day after Xmas, too.
I'm sad that more people were not drawn to it, it was stunning.
Thank you, cast and crew.....Godspeed to you all.
Just bought a ticket for Saturday night as well.
Orangeskittles, I have never seen a show as frequently as I did with this production of Ragtime. It's a shame it never caught on.
That's such a shame. It's not surprising, but I had still hoped the show would pick up steam. When I saw it everyone seemed to really enjoy it so I don't know why it failed to find a large audience.
"I don't know why it failed to find a large audience."
- I think a lot of it has to do with the sad fact that success on Broadway is more and more dependent on having a star, especially in this economy. Same thing is happening to Finian's Rainbow.
How annoying and rude for the producers to wait till now to announce this. I JUST bought tickets for January 16th.
Such a shame that this show can't seem to connect with a wide audience.
Why, I wonder?
Do they view it as "History Lesson: The Musical?" I kinda think that's it. This is a musical that's supposed to be good for you. "Take your medicine, audience." Learn something about the history of our country and its cultural diversity. You'll feel better after you see it.
Bleh. If I perceived it that way, I'd look for something else to see, too.
I wish the advertising campaign had emphasized the human story, rather than the "pageantry" of it.
Les Miz had a single child as its poster and campaign. It emphasized a small emotional "icon" rather than a French history lesson. And the music was pop rather than vintage.
Who knows? For whatever reason, despite its artistic merits, people just aren't interested.
Twenty years from now, some director will make a movie out of it, and it will win Best Picture, ala "Chicago."
For now, this is "the one that got away." TWICE.
FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK
I HAD TICKETS TO THE 5TH!

This breaks my heart. I'm more sad about this closing than "Shrek." Christiane Noll's version of "Back to Before" makes me cry and gives me goosebumps everytime. I couldn't understand why this musical never found an audiance.

Oh no! I had tickets for myself and my dad to go on the 5th. =[
You beat me to the question best12... I wonder what it is about the show that didn't find an audience. Do people see it as a history lesson? I'm one of those that didn't find the show appealing when - saw it 10 years ago. I wish I had the chance to go back and reevaluate it being a history teacher now... Best of luck to everyone involved with the showm
I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Christianne Noll for a Tony. Remember it's not an audience award.
Almost everyone who votes as already seen her performance. She will be judged fairly.

Such a shame. I'm thankful now that I got to see it.
