I enjoyed the show, though not as much as some of you, and it’s admirable that the producers kept it open this long.

If Barry wants to flex his muscle it could certainly tour as a non-Eq. Remember, putting a show on subscription is different than Broadway where everyone has to buy individually.

The other incentive to tour: the show will face obstacles in licensing. It can only be produced in communities with an extensive Latin American population that performs. Any show with racially-specific characters faces this challenge. A tour will be its only substantial shot at chipping away at the capitalization.

Maybe it will get an Encores revival in 2050.

It won't, but don't be surprised if this pops up at, say, Paper Mill or the Muny in around 5-15 years' time.
"

It’s in Bristol Riverside Theatre’s 25-26 season.
"

”real women have curves” the playby Josefina López is in the season NOT the musical

"

Thank you for the clarification.

It is interesting to contemplate what different choices might have led this show to a better trajectory.

I'm looking forward to catching it one more time before it closes -- another in a list of shows I adored that the general public didn't know/care about. I'm grateful to have the cast recording at least!

I think that people who didn't enjoy this show are too critical. It handles some heavy themes beautifully, but the tone overall is so joyous.

Got TDF tickets for today's matinee in light of the closing notice. The show is very predictable but really well done (and sadly timely). The title song and the menopause number are the highlights. Gorgeous sets and costumes

Where were your seats? I almost grabbed TDF tickets to see it again, but heard others' TDF seats weren't great so I used a discount code to get $74 seats. As soon as the TDF tickets were gone I wondered if I made a mistake and should have gone with them (not that $14 more is terrible).

Thanks. Maybe should have risked it then. (Others were saying they got mezz and balcony, and I barely survived the mezz leg room the first time.)

I went tonight and I remain very much sad that this show is closing because, especially when still watching it through the lens of the current events in California, it hit SO much harder. The audience was a lot more full than usual too, which definitely registered with the cast and they gave back that energy to us.

At the stage door, multiple cast members had mentioned that a potential 1-2 week extension might be possible (a la Swept Away) since there has allegedly been a surge in sales since the announcement. However, they won’t know anything until next week.

Side Note: I really wanted to stomp on the foot of this guy behind me at the stage door tonight. He was yammering on about how “It’s the last week so of course Justina has to come out.” and just seemed like an entitled nuisance. When Jennifer Sanchez was the last one out, he asked her if Justina was coming out and she said “She left a long time ago. It was a long day for her so I think I’m the last one.” to which replied “Oh, of course”.

Like dude, she just did two shows today - check your entitlement. The only time she came out when I went was the first time in early previews, but it seemed more like she got ensnared in the melee as opposed to having set up an alternate exit to leave unimpeded.

Looks like Sergio Trujillo delivered the closing speech today, with a brief intrusion from Josefina Lopez - "Immigrants make America great."

Oh look, a bibu!
