Mimi, Roger, Collins and Bennie will all be dead... that makes me sad...
Maureen and Joann will still be together, unless they somehow contract the HIV virus also.
Mark will be a big movie producer and make millions of dollars in films. He will have big sucess with his documentry and hop on the first flight to Hollywood. After a couple years of success who will move to Santa Fe and open up a shop in honor of his friends.
Lol... Who knows what would have happened to them, but to tell you the truth, I think knowing the ending would ruin it for me.
I guess it would really be about 20 years from now, though, yes?
I'm not sure. It's an interesting thought, though. RENT was so powerful and perfect for the time it came out. I never thought of the surviving characters lives beyond the show. You've got me thinking about Mark, though. Hmm. It would be cool to see what WhiteboySpice had to say on the subject!
Hmm, that is an interesting question. I think Mark would be really, really depressed after having lost Mimi, Collins, and especially Roger. That would probably be the hardest for him. He'd probably sit in a room, turn the lights off, and watch his film he made of his friends to cheer him up. Otherwise, he'd spend his time with Maureen and Joanne if they were open to it.
Maureen and Joanne would be like my aunt and uncle--still together but constantly bickering.]
Roger would die after Mimi, leaving Mark to be the one he says his main good-bye to. It would be very dramatic, with Roger acknowledging how much his perceptions have changed and how he realizes his life was worth living, etc.
I'm not quite sure what Collins would do until he died. Maybe spend a lot of time with Mark? He'd never find love like Angel again--he may just spend the rest of his life remembering and worshipping him/her.
I agree about Benny and the axe
Oh, and one more thing...Mark would finally call his mother one day.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
Are we sure they would all be dead? There are people who have been HIV+ for 20 years or more, and are still going strong. Have we given up all hope of ever finding a cure (or at least a more effective treatment)???
Jon, I'm just considering the time of the piece. At the time they got the virus, it was very unlikely that they would have survived. If they got the virus today, then I would say it's pretty unlikely they would die from it.

I feel that MARK is the Character Jonathan Larson chose to be himself, and therefore Mark will die of a heart condition after his movie gets picked up by a major production company, but he will never see it open.
