Since people here were harping on the "approved" shows list-that-wasn't for so long, I thought it was only fair to mention that at least some Republicans will be at Hairspray and The Boy From Oz. Including a very prominent parental couple...
Yes, it's a Riedel column

Hilarious. I open this thread and a few hours later there's yet another one about how those close-minded Republicans will only "approve" certain shows. The "non-approved" thing was sarcasm, everybody. There is no blacklist. Oy.
And the last two times I went to the theater with Republicans, it was to Gypsy and I am My Own Wife. Crazy, isn't it? They have appreciation for good shows, too.
whether or not "approval" was supposed to be meant how it is being used. Every paper and theatre site's writers are using the word "approval" as to what shows they were "allowed" to go to.

I thought this "Approval" was based on all the tickets that the convention bought to matinees. Would'nt that seem to be an "Approval" - not a blacklist?
Maybe the younger Bush could play Edna in January, since he'll need a new job.
George W will be replacing Brooke Shields after her run in Wonderful Town.
I haven't listened yet, but here is the site for NPR coverage on the subject.

And Condelezza Rice is going to single handedly save "Caroline or Change" by her firey portyal of Caroline, opposite Laura Bush as Rose Schulpnick.
It's gonna win the tony. AGAIN.

They're "allowed" to go to whatever show they want. The only restriction is time, which will be short because the convention is, well, long. As I said before, at least one delegate has tickets to The Big Gay Hugh Jackman Show. Why not? Not all Republicans are homophobes, or anti-art. Maybe those of you who think so should get out more and talk to people who don't reassuringly repeat your views back at you.
today i was at avenue q, and there were 2 republicans there, they were women and they went backstage and when they came out there were photographers making a big deal and taking their pictures!
I am certain that they are "allowed" (But why would they be "allowed"? It sounds like mom is saying "Ok, I let you go just this time!) to see whatever show they want to, but a big deal was made of what shows were "Approved". I think that's where everyone is going with this. Unfortunately, putting it out there to the media makes it look like the entire party approves of these shows so to speak. I am sure people went to shows that were not on the list. If I were Republican, there are a few on that list that I would not want to see! And I have seen posts where people have picked out Republicans at shows not on the list. Are they wearing identification from the convention or are people asking if they are Republicans? (And I am not being sarcastic with that question. Just curious)

Oh honey, they do that already.
I laughed during the "George Bush" line (didn't clap, but hey, I'm not going THAT far! ). But of course everyone can just go on thinking that I don't support art...stay away from 'offensive' things. Hate Avenue Q because of that one damn line.
But really, I think that the non-approved shows also had a LOT to do with money and what was offered to the Republicans. Big deal, they attended one of the 'non-approved' ones, I would have expected a number of them to.

Here's a hilarious story about two middle-aged Republican women who attended yesterday's matinee of "Avenue Q" :

The best parts of that article were the one womans comment to the muppet sex, and the G.D.'s bit.
I think its awesome, George and Barbara attended Hairspray. Republicans do have a sense humor, believe it or not.
Was Wicked an approved show?
Go Q cast :O)
Wicked wasn't a suggested show. My friend who was there on Saturday said that the "unelected officials" line got huge applause, though.
Was your friend at the Matinee or Evening? I was at the Matinee, I'm trying to remember that part.
saturday matinee.
oooh I was there too. I thought it was fantastic..

ljay889 - clearly all of America has a sense of humor - we elected Georgie didn't we? Oh no, we don't have a sense of humor, *we* didn't elect him afterall. I guess the Supreme Court has the same sense of humor as Ma and Pa Bush.
