Does anyone know if/when Ricky Martin's understudy ever goes on? I only have 2 possible opportunities to see Evita and I would be crushed if RM didn't go on. Wed or Sat matinee...what is my best bet? Thanks!
(p.s. sorry if this is already in another thread..I tried searching!)

not to burst your bubble, but you would be better off seeing RM understudy, Ricky is really bad, his performance reminds me of milk toast
BUT to be fair, it really is his show since everyone is screaming for him and he does get the biggest curtain call, I have not actually heard of him missing a performance. BUT, all the screaming for him when I saw it was very distraction. I started to think the people in the audience were not aware there was a storyline and it wasn;t a ricky matrin concert.

Posted: 5/3/12 at 2:26pmHis only scheduled vacation is the first week of July, I believe. Other than that, he should be on. I saw him yesterday afternoon. He has a very good voice but his acting is sub par. He has nooo idea what to do with his hands and comes off as very amateurish. So you won't be missing much except for seeing a celebrity up close.

He seems to be doing every single show but he has vacation coming up the first weeks of July and August (I hope Marc Anthony fills in). I would think the theater would clear out and ask for refunds if there was an announcement made of an unplanned absence and you would have read about it here.
If you're going Wednesday night or Saturday matinee You won't be seeing Elena Roger - a lot of people on this board would call you lucky.
From IBDB.com: Understudies: Bradley Dean (Perón), Christina DeCicco (Eva Perón), Constantine Germanacos (Magaldi), Laurel Harris (Eva Perón), Brad Little (Perón), Emily Mechler (Mistress), Sydney Morton (Mistress), Jessica Lea Patty (Eva Perón), Daniel Torres (Che), Max von Essen (Che), Matt Wall (Magaldi).

Posted: 5/3/12 at 4:30pmI also would love to see Max von Essen in the role...I didn't realize Ricky was going to be out for a couple weeks during the summer. Hopefully they let the understudies actually go on, that would be enough to get me back in that theater because I thought Ricky was terrible.

Posted: 5/3/12 at 4:33pmI plan on going back while Ricky is on vacation so I can see Max (assuming he's on) and Christina. I'd like to see two different takes on the lead roles.

Posted: 5/3/12 at 5:53pmI would go back and see Max also, Hopefully he plays it as someone who actually cares that his country is being raped and not how RM is currently portraying it. I hope Max goes on in his place

It wouldn't be enough to bring me back to such a mediocre production -- especially not at those prices -- but I also would love to see MvE play the role.

Posted: 5/3/12 at 6:32pmI'm surprised Bradley Dean isn't understudying Che. He was the absolute best part of the last Equity Evita tour that went around a few years back.

Posted: 5/3/12 at 10:43pmI'd also love to see Max as Che. I've seen him in so many shows at Sacramento Music Circus, it only seems right. :)

Posted: 5/3/12 at 10:53pmI'll be seeing the show for the first time in August when Ricky is on vacation. I'm really hoping I get to see Max as Che... I have no desire to see Ricky at all

I have a weird fascination with Max in that I thought he was the least charismatic Jesus I'd ever seen, most miscast Enjolras I'd ever seen, and kinda too old to play Joseph, but I still really enjoy him in a general sense.
(I've seen him as Sonny and Anthony Hope too! He's everywhere!)

Posted: 5/4/12 at 2:12pmI am also in the Max Von Essen corner. This phenomenon reminds me of when Mario Lopez was in A Chorus Line and people were hoping he'd call out (as he increasingly did towards the end of his short run) so they could see Grant Turner or one of the other understudies.
