Home for the Holidays is indeed using an Equity production contract.
And you do not have to join Equity to work on an Equity contract. Dues will still be deducted and the producer will still contribute to the pooled benefits- unless, of course, you're in a right-to-work state (and soon we may all be!).

Legally no one can be required to join any union, but Antonio Banderas would have still been working under an Equity contract with all required payments (health and pension payments from the producer and working dues being withheld from his salary) being made.
It’s probably that any Hollywood Star works on an equity contract, but they stick with sag-aftra as their union
I noticed this in yesterday's Butterfly closing announcement:
"Clive Owen is appearing with the support of Actors' Equity Association."
Which leads me to believe he is not a member.
If you are a member of SAG-AFTRA, you are bound to work on an Equity contract if doing theatre (ie- working in Equity's jurisdiction). The same is true of Equity members and work within SAG-AFTRA jurisdiction.

Clive Owen may not be eligible to join due to his citizenship status.
this is another one of those threads that has now invited some comments from people who don't know what they are talking about.
As Kad says "Clive Owen may not be eligible to join due to his citizenship status."
In fact, I am unaware of any other reason for someone appearing with AEA's "support."
An American cannot work as an actor on Broadway without an AEA contract. This has nothing to do with for profit status.
It is untrue that the union contract would "do nothing for" an actor.
It is untrue that one cannot be required to join the union (except in a RTW state which NY is of course not). There is a thing called financial core membership in which only the money is paid, but that would absolutely not prompt a "with Equity's support" notation.

I believe Equity has a reciprocal agreement with their counterpart in the UK.

It is not reciprocal (which would mean folks could automatically swim back and forth) but it is a tit for tat agreement (meaning that it requires balancing). Note also that no one gets to work here without a visa, and no one gets a visa without the approval of the union.

WITHOUT shade please...
Still no announcement about it closing.
dramamama611-The article doesn't clearlystate anything, it's just Reidel speculating about it closing on Sunday. At this rate, Iwouldn't be surprised if he'sright though."
His article states: A closing notice went up this week, but the producers are trying to keep it quiet.
Granted, we don't know that it's true, but if we're going to speculate about it, we should accept HIS givens.

So if they're trying to keep it quiet, do those who have tickets after get their money back? Their site still says the 30th is closing, and that would be ****ty as hell and very unethical to not allow those with purchased tickets after this supposed closing to get their money back.
I know a few non-union actors who have worked Equity contracts and just didn't accept their card. It happens! No one is forced to join.

Simmer down JennH. Whenever ANY show on Broadway closes, any ticket buyer who bought a ticket through a legitimate source (in the case of Home for the Holidays, BOTH of them!) get their money back. The producers don't see a dime of ticket sales until after the particular performance has taken place. ALL future ticket sales are held in escrow by the theatre owner just for that very purpose. It's not like the producer can skip town without fulfilling obligations.

Why wouldn’t they give back the money?

They'd have a lawsuit on their hands....yes, they get refunded for any show that doesnt go on as planned.
How sad a HOLIDAY show can't make money during a 6 week run a the holidays.
How sad the PRODUCERS couldn't figure out how to put up a HOLIDAY show that can't make money during a 6 week run at the holidays.
Given the number of performances she missed during WSS, I was surprised she was hired for the lead role in a huge musical.
I don't recall it being an issue during In the Heights or more recently, Hamilton in Chicago.
On her Instagram story last night, Evynne Hollens mentioned this week is a very important week to go see the show.
I highly doubt they'll gross even $250K this week, so I'm assuming it's closing on Sunday. But why procrastinate this announcement?

No idea, but they must REALLY be wanting to keep it under wraps or they aren't really closing, which I'm only saying because the official FB page just yesterday, posted the usual "see us before our final performance!" ad, and it still says the 30th. Nor has the website itself changed either. Not that I'm disbelieving it closing Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised at this juncture, but I find it odd they're still advertising the 30th if they are indeed closing.
Has a show ever announced a closing the day before or the day if their closing date? For HFTH, it would be this Saturday or Sunday if they're closing on Sunday. If he producers can't pay everyone the next two weeks due to no advance, what other choice do they have?
Interesting quote from the article: "“The investors are 100 percent behind this production.”
Sounds like a fancy media-speak way of saying that there has been 0% recoupment.
I saw an ad for it on a digital billboard when I was driving in NJ yesterday, I was surprised to see it lol

Lots of shows have closed on opening night.
I keep checking twice a day, and there still are tickets on sale up until the 30th.
