Hmmm I wonder what it could be. Is "Untitled" just going to become "Gypsy" or will this be the original screen musical some of us have been dying to see? Either way, I love Rob and his work, so I'll be there opening day. ------------ The Weinsteins Reveal Upcoming Projects Source: Variety October 2, 2006
The Weinstein Company is in talks with Lasse Hallström to direct Rain in Spain, a potential starring vehicle for Penélope Cruz, says Variety.
It also is bringing on board Danny Boyle to direct the Robert Nelson Jacobs-penned Solomon Grundy, based on the Dan Gooch novel.
Other upcoming films set to go before the cameras for the studio include Untitled Rob Marshall Musical, which begins shooting this spring, and the Denzel Washington-helmed Great Debaters, which heads into production in February.
"Debaters" is based on the true story of a professor at historically black Wiley College in East Texas.
Anthony Minghella's The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency will shoot in South Africa next spring.
The Weinstein Company also has hired Rob Zombie to direct a remake of John Carpenter's Halloween.
And following up on the success of their most successful movie so far, Dimension's Scary Movie 4, they have another genre spoof up their sleeve in Superhero!.
hmm interesting. I would imagine it's a musical dramedy.
Rob seems to be very particular in the movies he directs.
I would love to see him tackle Company. Actually thats what I would love to direct for the screen. :) I think it could be done very well.

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!" -E!'s "The Soup"
I for one thought he did a remarkable job with Chicago. Very inventive and artistic approach to a show most of us know so well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to see him work on another musical. Actually, I would love to see SOMEONE do another good movie musical. I lost a bit of faith after Phantom and Producers came to the screen. But hopefully Mr. Marshall can revive/reinspire the genre for us.
Very intriguing indeed! I, too, am a fan of his direction of "Chicago." Imagine, the "Cell Block Tango" actually being, well, a TANGO!!!! In the meantime, we can catch his direction of the upcoming Tony Bennett television special...
The original isn't the best movie musical out there- but it does have a certain amount of charm.
But I would like to see Marshall direct something with a little more substance.

If it's an adaptation of a stage show, then it needs to be a re-imagination. He has to equal or top Chicago. This means that I fully expect something wild like making Both Reached for the Gun a full puppet act.
>>>Haven't the Weinsteins announced that Guys and Dolls was going to be next?<<<
We read something a few months back where Hugh Jackman mentioned "Guys & Dolls" and said "all we need is to find a director and it should be able to go next year" so it's assumed he's going to be doing this movie. BUT - this Marshall article says filming is in the spring, and Hugh is in Australia filming the untitled Baz Luhrmann epic with Nicole Kidman, so if the G&D/Hugh thing is true, I don't think it could be that. I hope it's not Gypsy. The Cathrine Zeta Jones rumors have gotten me scared to death. I know Marshall could probably pull it off, but... I don't know who he'd cast.
If this is original... well, this could get very interesting.
SondheimGeek: Is it slightly pathetic that you guys get to be Jedi bitches, and I'm Bitchy the Hutt?
LizzieCurry: No, you're more memorable
Streisand is so not ideal for GYPSY. There is a long thread talking about how actually age wise, CZJ is closer to the actual Rose than anyone who has actually played it on Broadway.
Age-wise maybe. But talent-wise,a definite NO! Who cares how old she is? As long as she is old enough to be mother to her June and Louise. Plus, if she is too young, the idea that she has failed as an actress / singer is not as poignant. Knowing that she is over the hill and has no chance of ever being a success is much more effective.
Do we really need another Gypsy right now? I realize that the definitive movie version of Gypsymay not have been made yet, but I want to see something brand new. I don't need to see another Guys and Dolls either.
I agree with Michael Bennett. Although I think Streisand is amazing, she is not ideal for the role right now (although I would love to hear her sing the score). Rob Marshall directing Barbra Streisand in practically anything however, would be very exciting news.
If they start shooting in the spring... why wouldn't a title have surfaced?

I thought I read somewhere way back where Baz Luhrmann mentioned wanting to do something like Guys and Dolls. Man owuld i ever want to see his take on that world, and even moreso his wife Catherine Martin's take on that world.
